PROJECT NAME OKCVAMC OR & SICU DB Package
OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY
This structural narrative is intended as a Design-Build (DB) RFP narrative for completing the construction of the 7th and 8th floors, totaling approximately 32,274 GSF. The 7th floor will be renovated into three new operating rooms and the recently installed vertical addition of the 8th floor will be new Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) space.
The majority of structural work for the vertical addition was completed by a previous contractor.
Therefore, the Level 1 requirements identified in the Department of Veterans Affairs A/E
Submission Instructions for Design-Build Projects are not pertinent or were provided as part of the original SICU vertical addition project.
However, numerous items must still be addressed by the DB Contractor to finalize the project.
No structural drawings will be included in the DB RFP bridging documents.

ANTI-TERRORISM/FORCE PROTECTION
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs Physical Security Design Manual, “Design and construction standards are provided for the physical security of new buildings, additions, and major alterations. The manual further defines major alterations as “a project where the area of renovation, including any associated addition, is equal to or greater than 50 percent of the area in the building in which the work is to be performed.”
This 32,274 GSF project is below the 50 percent threshold and, therefore, not subject to the requirements of the Physical Security Design Manual.
