Traffic Count Data File Summary

This is a vehicle count data output spreadsheet from the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) containing hourly traffic volume data for a counting station located at Waterboro on State Route 4/U.S. Route 202 south of Interstate 490 (Straw Mill Road) in York County for the year 2021. The dataset tracks traffic in two directions—northbound (NB) and southbound (SB)—across 24 hours for each day of the year, with entries beginning January 1, 2021, and continuing through December 31, 2021. The spreadsheet includes raw volume counts, directional split percentages, and hourly volume distributions by day of week. Data is organized by day of year and location, with daily totals and cumulative calculations provided. The file demonstrates MaineDOT's traffic monitoring capabilities and the granular data collection infrastructure that supports the larger Traffic Count Software as a Service (SaaS) procurement effort (RFP #202510141), which seeks a platform to manage approximately 5,000 to 7,000 annual portable short-duration counts and 130 continuous count sites statewide.

The traffic data presented includes sophisticated analytical breakdowns showing directional distribution patterns, hourly peaks, and day-of-week variations, illustrating the complexity of data management required by the proposed SaaS solution. This historical data file represents the type of information that must be converted, managed, and reported within the new traffic count software platform, which must integrate with multiple equipment types and support federal reporting requirements including HPMS and TMAS submissions. The data's granularity and volume underscore why MaineDOT requires a comprehensive cloud-based solution capable of handling approximately 130 continuous count sites plus thousands of portable counts annually, with capability to store and analyze up to ten years of historical traffic data as part of the system implementation and migration process.
