About this file

This document is a technical specification section (Section 53) for Reclaimed Water Systems, developed for a city engineering department. The specification provides detailed requirements for materials, pipe types, fittings, and installation standards for reclaimed water distribution systems. The document covers two primary pipe types: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and ductile iron pipe, with minimum pressure ratings of 150 psi. Specifications include comprehensive details on pipe characteristics, joint configurations, service lines, stops, fittings, service saddles, rapid taps, and ancillary components like hose bibs and shut-off valves.

The technical specifications mandate specific material standards, including compliance with AWWA (American Water Works Association) and ANSI standards. Pipe materials must meet precise technical requirements, such as PVC pipes with a dimension ratio (DR) of 18 and ductile iron pipes with a minimum Pressure Class 150. The contractor is responsible for material procurement, storage, and quality, with provisions for potential testing and replacement of defective materials. The document specifies color coding (purple) for reclaimed water systems, detailed installation requirements, and specific manufacturer models for components like hose bibs and attachments, ensuring a comprehensive and standardized approach to reclaimed water system infrastructure.

Pipe used for reclaimed water distribution systems shall be either polyvinyl chloride (C-900 DR18 PVC) or ductile iron pipe (DIP), minimum Pressure Class 150.

The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for all materials furnished and storage of same, until the date of substantial completion. The CONTRACTOR shall replace, at his expense, all materials found to be defective or damaged in handling and storage. The CONTRACTOR shall, if requested by the CITY ENGINEER or designee, furnish certificates, affidavits of compliance, test reports, or samples for check analysis for any of the materials specified herein. All pipe delivered to the project site for installation is subject to random testing for compliance with the designated specifications.

53.2 PIPE INSPECTION AND TESTING

Requirements specified in Section 40 shall apply.

53.3 PVC PIPE, JOINTS, AND FITTINGS

53.3.1 PVC PIPE

All PVC pipe shall be manufactured in accordance with AWWA Standard C-900, latest edition. PVC pipe shall have a minimum working pressure rating of 150 psi and shall have a dimension ratio (DR) of 18. Pipe shall have the same outside diameter (OD) as ductile iron pipe.

53.3.2 JOINTS
