16.20 Specification Requirements
Per S-001, Section 2 (Design Criteria), the Wind Load Design Criteria and associated Design Wind Pressures for wall components are defined as follows (101+ SF):
Zone 4: +31 / −76 psf
Zone 5: +53 / −96 psf
These pressures are based on ASCE 7-16, 128 mph Vult, Risk Category III, Exposure D, and, per UFGS 08 34 16.20, the Vertical Lift Fabric Doors are required to be designed as “Partially Enclosed.”
Sheet SF521 identifies the scope of work as Vertical Lift Fabric Door Repairs. However, the existing Vertical Lift Fabric Doors were originally designed in 2008 in accordance with ASCE 7-05 and for a wind load design pressure of 43 psf.
The current UFGS 08 34 16.20 RFP Specifications (Rev. 8/21 with Change 2 dated 8/24) include requirements that the existing Vertical Lift Fabric Doors, as designed, do not comply with.
Please confirm whether:
The existing Vertical Lift Fabric Doors may be repaired as currently designed, with the applicable RFP compliance requirements waived, or
The existing Vertical Lift Fabric Doors must be fully replaced to meet the current RFP Design Criteria and specification requirements.
Repair as indicated. All new components provided must comply with contract documents. Any existing components that are otherwise functional and will remain in service do not need to be "upgraded" to comply with specifications.
