About this file
This is a specification section for prefabricated steel buildings to be installed at Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia for the MQ-25 Aircraft Laydown Facilities project (FY 24 MCON Project P-222, Work Order No. 1737012). The specification establishes technical requirements, materials, and installation procedures for factory-built modular structures.
The prefabricated steel buildings must meet specific dimensional and structural requirements: 8'-6" x 13'-6" clear inside floor plan with 102 inches nominal outside height and 96 inches interior floor-to-ceiling height. Construction must utilize 14-gauge mechanical tube welded framing with a smooth, flat exterior free of exposed fasteners. The buildings feature standing seam hip roofs with 4-inch overhangs, rubber anti-fatigue tile flooring with cove base molding, and three-inch thick wall panels with R-12 insulation (16-gauge galvanized steel exterior and interior faces, MIG welded). A one-piece swinging door (36" x 84" commercial grade steel with card reader and keyed entry) is required. The manufacturer must provide lifting lugs and forklift pockets for installation. Materials must comply with specified ASTM standards for steel, aluminum, and insulation components. Building accessories include a 208V 12,000/11,100 BTU heat pump and a mini-split HVAC system with wall/ceiling-mounted air handlers and externally mounted compressors. The manufacturer must demonstrate a minimum of twenty years' documented experience and employ independent third-party quality control with a 5-stage, 35-step inspection process. A one-year warranty covers materials and freight for defects, with an additional five-year warranty against delamination and structural defects under normal wear conditions. Government approval is required for shop drawings, product data, construction details, preparation instructions, storage and handling requirements, installation methods, color chips, product certificates, and warranty documentation.
