Cayo Costa State Park Power Infrastructure Analysis Lee County, FL
Statewide Contract CN202, Task Assignment 35
Project Objective: Cayo Costa State Park is located “off grid” with its own independent power supply.
The system is not designed properly for the necessary loadings and there are ongoing equipment failures which cause frequent power interruptions. Michael Baker will provide a field inspection and electrical load assessment and provide recommendations for design improvements under this work order.
Subtask 1: Site Inspection and Analysis
Michael Baker International will provide one site visit with a FDEP representative to review existing infrastructure and inventory current electrical loading requirements. In addition, any proposed improvements or changes from existing conditions by FDEP will be discussed for consideration in the loading analysis.
An electrical loading analysis will be performed after the field visit, which will be utilized to provide FDEP with 2 recommended design alternatives, along with an engineers estimated construction estimate for each alternative. Once a design is chosen by FDEP, biddable plans, permits, and specifications will be completed via contract amendment, as authorized by FDEP. Conceptual alternatives will attempt to utilize existing solar panel/s and/or provide efficiency to the proposed system through equipment and/or design recommendations.
Assumptions:
1. FDEP will provide transportation to/from the mainland and island for the field assessment/inspection.
2. FDEP will provide a park representative to serve as a knowledgeable guide to the provided Michael Baker representative when performing the field assessment/inspection. The Michael Baker representative will be escorted to all locations where electrical power is currently needed or proposed.
3. FDEP will provide Michael Baker with a list of all improvements/additions to the site prior to or within 48 hours of the completion of the inspection.
4. Existing electrical infrastructure will not be considered for reuse, except solar panel units as able. Proposed improvements will be based off of a full redesign/reconstruction of the system.
5. Wind power will not be considered in providing design alternatives to FDEP.
Deliverable:
The following will be provided to FDEP in .pdf report format:
a. A loading analysis report will be provided to FDEP summarizing electrical loading needs.
b. 2 design alternatives and construction cost estimates will be provided for consideration by
FDEP.
Performance Measure: FDEP will review provided information as needed to facilitate timely completion of each task.
