About this file

These are technical specifications for the EHRM Infrastructure Upgrades project (695-21-700) at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The specifications cover interior construction finishes and hardware required for Tier 1 construction, including detailed requirements for wood doors, door hardware, flooring subsurface preparation, metal framing, and gypsum board installation.

Section 08 14 00 specifies interior flush wood doors with structural composite lumber cores, premium-grade white birch veneer faces, and transparent or painted finishes. Doors must comply with ANSI/WDMA standards, include fire-rated options with appropriate labeling per NFPA standards, and feature sound-rated assemblies where specified. Core requirements include 44mm thickness, Algoma Hardwoods structural composite lumber (5-ply), and factory finishing with conversion varnish or catalyzed vinyl systems. Section 08 71 00 establishes comprehensive door hardware requirements including Hager hinges (basis of design), Sargent mortise locksets with stainless steel levers, LCN closers, HES electric strikes, Pemko perimeter gasketing, and Medeco X4 SFIC cores integrated with the existing VA Milwaukee Grand Master Key System. Hardware sets (HW1-HW12) are defined for various door types, including standard locksets, card reader/electrified strikes, and anti-ligature options for behavioral health areas, with warranty periods ranging from 5 years for locks to 25 years for closers. Section 09 05 16 requires concrete floor subsurface preparation including moisture and pH testing per ASTM standards, with remedial epoxy coatings for moisture suppression and cementitious self-leveling underlayments for surface defects and levelness corrections. Section 09 22 16 specifies non-structural metal framing using ASTM C645 galvanized steel studs at 16-inch maximum on-center spacing, with detailed installation requirements for wall systems, shaft walls, and suspended ceiling systems. Section 09 29 00 requires ASTM C1396 Type X gypsum board at 5/8-inch thickness, water-resistant backing board in wet areas, and shaft wall liner panels with proper joint treatment and finishing per ASTM C840 standards.
