SECTION 260500 – COMMON WORK RESULTS
FOR ELECTRICAL
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section Includes:
1. Electrical equipment coordination and installation.
2. Common electrical installation requirements.
1.3 DEFINITIONS
A. EPDM: Ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber.
B. NBR: Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data:
1. Fire Stopping Material.
2. Conduit seals.
B. At the completion of the project, Contractor shall submit operating instructions and maintenance manuals. Submit model number, catalog information, technical data sheets, shop drawings, test reports, wiring diagrams, parts lists and maintenance instructions where applicable for each item of equipment identified in each specification section.
C. Throughout the progress of construction, keep a complete and detailed record of all deviations in the electrical installation from that indicated on the Drawings, specifications and/or shop drawings. At the completion of the project and prior to final payment this marked set of drawings shall be submitted to Contracting Officer.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. All work and materials shall be in accordance with the requirements and codes of the State of Illinois, City of Springfield, and all other applicable bodies having jurisdiction.

B. If, in the opinion of the Contractor, any part of the specification or plans do not comply with the laws, codes and regulations, that matter shall be referred in writing to the attention of the Contracting Officer for a decision before proceeding with that part of the work. There shall be no changes in the drawings or specifications made without approval of the Contracting Officer.
C. This Contractor shall secure and pay for all permits required by local authorities and shall provide the Contracting Officer with satisfactory interim and final inspection certificates.
1.6 REFERENCES TO STANDARDS
A. All materials and equipment furnished and installed under this contract shall be in accordance with the following applicable technical society, organization or body:
1. UL – Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc.
2. NEC – National Electrical Code.
3. NFPA – National Fire Protection Association.
4. NEMA – National Electrical Manufacturers Association.
5. ASTM – American Society for Testing and Materials.
6. IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
7. ANSI – American National Standards Institute, Inc.
B. Reference to standards shall mean and intend the latest edition of such standards adopted and published at the date of bidding documents.
1.7 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate arrangement, mounting, and support of electrical equipment:
1. To allow maximum possible headroom unless specific mounting heights that reduce headroom are indicated.
2. To provide for ease of disconnecting the equipment with minimum interference to other installations.
3. To allow right of way for piping and conduit installed at required slope.
4. So connecting raceways, cables, wireways and cable trays will be clear of obstructions and of the working and access space of other equipment.
B. Coordinate installation of required supporting devices and set sleeves in cast-in-place concrete, masonry walls, and other structural components as they are constructed.
C. Coordinate sleeve selection and application with selection and application of firestopping specified in Division 07 Section 078413 "Penetration Firestopping."
1.8 TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL SERVICES
A. Provide temporary lighting for safety and security throughout the Project.
B. Provide temporary power for construction needs throughout the Project.

1.9 GUARANTEE
A. Guarantee all materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year in accord with the General Conditions.
1.10 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Materials shall be suitably packaged by manufacturer to prevent damage during shipment.
Damaged materials will not be acceptable for use.
B. Store materials on site in clean, dry storage area; when outside, elevated above grade and enclosed with durable watertight wrapping.
C. Handle all materials carefully to prevent damage. Minor scratches, marks or blemishes to finish shall be repaired.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIALS
A. General:
1. All equipment and material for permanent installation shall be new unless specifically indicated otherwise. In addition material shall:
a. Be without blemish or defect.
b. Not be used for temporary power or lighting without prior written authorization from the Contracting Officer.
c. Be in accordance with NEMA Standards.
d. Bear Underwriter’s Label where subject to U.L. label service.
B. Fire Stopping Material:
1. Fire stopping materials shall consist of commercially manufactured products capable of passing ASTM E-814 (UL 1479) Standard Method of Fire Test for Through Penetration Fire Stops.
2. Fire stopping materials shall maintain the rating of the wall, partition or floor opening that penetration is made. Refer to fire assembly ratings as indicated on the Architectural wall and floor section detail drawings.
3. Fire stopping materials shall be U.L. classified.
4. Fire stopping materials for cables through wall or raceway openings shall be stackable
UL listed pillows to allow for addition/revisions.
5. Fire stopping materials are specified in Division 07 Section 078413 “Penetration
Firestopping.”
C. Water Seal:

1. Seal penetrations of perimeter walls or floors below grade to prevent entry of water. Use materials compatible with wall or floor construction.
2. Seal penetrations of roof, with flashings compatible with roof design.
D. Nameplates:
1. General: Furnish and install nameplates wherever indicated as “required” in these specifications. Wording shall identify function of device to which nameplate is attached or identify equipment serviced by device. Wording shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer for review prior to purchase of nameplates.
2. Nameplate materials are specified in Division 26 Section 260553 “Identification for Electrical Systems.”
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 COMMON REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
A. Comply with NECA 1.
B. Measure indicated mounting heights to bottom of unit for suspended items and to top of unit for wall-mounting items.
C. Headroom Maintenance: If mounting heights or other location criteria are not indicated, arrange and install components and equipment to provide maximum possible headroom consistent with these requirements.
D. Equipment: Install to facilitate service, maintenance, and repair or replacement of components of both electrical equipment and other nearby installations. Connect in such a way as to facilitate future disconnecting with minimum interference with other items in the vicinity.
E. Right of Way: Give priority to piping systems installed at a required slope.
F. All equipment and materials shall be installed and completed in a first-class workmanlike manner. The right is reserved to direct the removal and replacement of any item, which in the opinion of the Contracting Officer does not present an orderly and reasonably neat or workmanlike appearance, provided such items can be properly installed in an orderly way by usual methods in such work.
3.2 LOCATION OF EQUIPMENT
A. The approximate location of all equipment and devices is shown on the Drawings. The Contracting Officer reserves the right to change the location of all equipment or devices 6 ft (1,830 mm) in any direction at no additional cost provided such changes are requested before final installation.

B. Install all equipment with ample space allowed for removal and repair. Provide ready accessibility to removable parts of equipment and to all wiring without moving equipment which is installed or which is already in place.
C. In mechanical and electrical equipment spaces, expose ceiling outlets and conduit with due consideration to ventilating ducts and mechanical piping. Where numerous ducts occur, install conduits and outlets after the ventilating ducts. Puncturing of duct work or hanging equipment such as light fixtures, ceiling hangers and conduits from duct work is prohibited unless specifically noted otherwise.
D. Electrical equipment shall be installed to maintain minimum clearances per Article 110 of NEC and ANSI C2 (National Electrical Safety Code.)
3.3 COORDINATION
A. Provide day-to-day coordination with the work of other contractors engaged in this project.
Execute the work in a manner not to interfere with other contractors.
B. Coordinate with other contractors regarding the location and size of pipes, raceways, ducts, openings, devices, so that there may be no interferences between installation or of the progress of any contractor.
C. If conflict arises in the installation of work, the following preference schedules shall be followed:
1. Recessed lighting fixtures.
2. Sanitary drainage.
3. Hot and chilled water piping.
4. Low pressure ductwork.
5. Domestic water, storm and vent lines.
6. Electric conduits.
3.4 WALL, ROOF AND FLOOR PENETRATIONS AND SLEEVE INSTALLATION
A. Provide sleeves for all electrical raceways, and wiring passing through walls and floors and roof. Sleeves shall be of sufficient length to extend through the wall, roof and floors. Wall sleeves shall have ends flush with finished thickness of walls and floor sleeves shall extend 1 in.
(25 mm) above finish floor. Interior diameter of sleeves shall provide 1/2 in. (12 mm) clearance all around conduit.
B. Set all wall, roof and floor sleeves during the construction of same in new construction:
1. Structural concrete beams shall be sleeved only in the middle 1/3 of span. Notify Contracting Officer of any required deviation from this prior to placement of sleeve.
C. Below grade wall and roof penetration shall be made watertight. Below grade wall penetration shall be sealed with compression type conduit sealing bushings. Roof penetration shall be sealed and flashed per roof manufacturers published recommendations.

3.5 FIRE STOPPING
A. All occupied and unoccupied sleeves or openings for electrical raceways, or cables shall be fire stopped, to provide an effective barrier against the spread of fire, smoke and gases and maintain the integrity of the partition, wall or floor. Refer to fire assembly ratings as indicated on the Architectural wall and floor section detail drawings:
1. Fire stopping installation requirements are specified in Division 07 Section 078413 “Penetration Fire Stopping.”
B. Fire stopping materials shall be installed in accordance with manufacturers written instructions.
C. Provide UL listed fire pillows to seal openings where cable trays pass through fire rated walls.
3.6 PROTECTION OF WORK
A. Protect work from injury by keeping all conduit and boxes capped and plugged or otherwise protected. This includes damage by freezing and/or stoppage from building materials, sand, dirt, or concrete.
B. Protect all equipment and fixtures from damages during the project, provide all tarpaulins, drop cloths, barricades, temporary heaters or auxiliary equipment.
C. All materials or equipment damaged during construction shall be repaired or replaced with new items to the satisfaction of the Contracting Officer.
3.7 IDENTIFICATION
A. Furnish and install approved permanent nameplates on all items of electrical equipment showing nature and function of each piece of equipment. This shall include panelboards, panels, motor starters, disconnect switches and motor control devices. Nameplates shall be fastened to devices (except for factory-installed nameplates) with rivets or sheet metal screws after finish painting of item has been completed.
B. Identify junction box covers with legible designation as to service, circuit numbers and/or system. This shall be done with embossed tape with 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) high characters.
3.8 PAINTING
A. Finish painting shall be as specified in Division 09 Section 099123 “Interior Painting.”
B. Provide touch-up painting of all electrical equipment marred in any way during shipment or installation.

3.9 CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT
A. Equipment: The Contractor shall make final electrical connections to all items of equipment.
All power wiring from power source through starters, disconnects and control panels to equipment shall be provided.
3.10 ELECTRICAL DEMOLITION
A. Remove all existing electrical materials and associated items as shown or noted on the drawings and/or as required by the work.
B. Removal of all existing electrical devices shall be such that all existing remaining electrical devices are kept in continuous service.
C. Existing circuit conductors connected to outlet boxes or fixtures being removed shall be disconnected and removed back to source or to next active remaining device.
D. Existing circuit conductors connected to other electrical equipment that are not to be removed or disconnected and are passing through boxes and conduit that are being removed shall re rerouted from removed existing device to next remaining devices as necessary to keep remaining devices in service and existing conductors continuous.
E. Where connections of existing devices be made continuous with existing conduit, boxes and conductors; new raceways and conductors shall be installed from existing remaining device to next remaining device.
F. All conditions shall be carefully field determined and verified prior to removal.
3.11 DISPOSITION OF REMOVED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
A. All removed electrical equipment designated to be reused shall be as indicated on the drawings.
B. Removed electrical equipment designated to remain the property of the Government shall be stored on the site in a place as directed.
C. All other removed electrical equipment and related items to become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed from the property and legally disposed of.
