PART 1 - GENERAL

1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Shop Drawings: Indicate system layout with location and detail of trapeze hangers.

D. Design Data: Indicate load carrying capacity of trapeze, multiple pipe, and riser support hangers.

E. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Submit special procedures and assembly of components.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Perform Work in conformance with NFPA 13 and 14 for support of sprinkler piping and standpipes.

1.6 QUALIFICATIONS

A. Installer: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum three (3) years documented experience.

2.2 PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

A. Fire Protection Piping: Conform to NFPA 13.

B. Plumbing Piping: Conform to MSS SP58, MSS SP69.

C. Hangers for Pipe Sizes 1/2 (12.7 mm ) to 1-1/2 in. (38.1 mm): Malleable iron, adjustable swivel, split ring.

D. Hangers for Pipe Sizes 2 in. (50.8 mm) and Over Carbon steel, adjustable, clevis.

E. Hangers for Hot Pipe Sizes 2 in. (50.8 mm) to 4 in. (101.6 mm): Carbon steel, adjustable, clevis.

L. Vertical Support: Steel riser clamp.

M. Floor Support: Cast iron adjustable pipe saddle, lock nut, nipple, floor flange, and concrete pier or steel support.

N. Floor Support for Hot Pipe Sizes to 4 in. (101.6 mm): Cast iron adjustable pipe saddle, lock nut, nipple, floor flange, and concrete pier or steel support.

O. Floor Support for Hot Pipe Sizes 6 in. (152.4 mm) and Over: Adjustable cast iron roll and stand, steel screws, and concrete pier or steel support.

P. Copper Pipe Support: Carbon-steel adjustable ring, copper plated.

Q. Shield for Insulated Piping 2 in. (50.8 mm) and Smaller: 18 gage galvanized steel shield over insulation in 180 degree segments, minimum 12 in. (304.8 mm) long at pipe support.

R. Shield for Insulated Piping 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) and Larger (Except Cold Water Piping): Pipe covering protective saddles.

S. Shields for Insulated Cold Water Piping 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) and Larger: Hard block non-conducting saddles in 90 degree segments, 12 in. (304.8 mm) minimum length, block thickness same as insulation thickness.

T. Shields for Vertical Copper Pipe Risers: Sheet lead.

U. Prime coat exposed steel hangers and supports. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipe shafts, and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed.

V. Inserts: Malleable iron case of galvanized steel shell and expander plug for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attaching to forms; size inserts to suit threaded hanger rods.

A. Hanger Rods: Mild steel threaded both ends, threaded on one end, or continuous threaded.

2.4 DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

A. Hangers: Galvanized steel band iron or 1-1/4 in. (31.8 mm) x 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) angle and 3/8 in.

(9.5 mm) rods.

B. Wall Supports: Galvanized steel band iron or fabricated angle bracket.

C. Vertical Support at Floor: Rolled 1-1/4 in. (31.8 mm) x 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) angle.

2.5 INSERTS

A. Inserts: Malleable iron case of galvanized steel shell and expander plug for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attaching to forms; size inserts to suit threaded hanger rods.

2.6 FLASHING

A. Metal Flashing: 26 gage thick galvanized steel.

B. Metal Counterflashing: 22 gage thick galvanized steel.

C. Lead Flashing:

1. Waterproofing: 5 lb./sq. ft (239.4 PA) sheet lead.

2. Soundproofing: 1 lb./sq. ft (47.9 PA) sheet lead.

D. Flexible Flashing: 47 mil thick sheet butyl; compatible with roofing.

E. Caps: Steel, 22 gage minimum; 16 gage at fire resistant elements.

2.7 SLEEVES

A. Sleeves for Pipes Through Non-fire Rated Floors: 18 gage thick galvanized steel.

B. Sleeves for Pipes Through Non-fire Rated Beams, Walls, Footings, and Potentially Wet Floors:

Steel pipe or 18 gage thick galvanized steel.

C. Sleeves for Pipes Through Fire Rated and Fire Resistive Floors and Walls, and Fire Proofing:

Prefabricated fire rated sleeves including seals, UL listed.

D. Size sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and contraction. Provide for continuous insulation wrapping.

E. Sleeves for Round Ductwork: Galvanized steel.

F. Sleeves for Rectangular Ductwork: Galvanized steel or wood.

2.8 FIRE STOP SYSTEM

A. General Purpose Fire Stopping Sealant: Water based, non-slumping, premixed sealant with intumescent properties, rated for three (3) hours per ASTM E814 and UL 1479.

B. General Purpose Vibration Resistant Fire Stopping Sealant: Silicone based, non-slumping, premixed sealant with intumescent properties, vibration and moisture resistant, rated for three (3) hours per ASTM E814 and UL 1479.

C. DWV Plastic Pipe Systems Fire Stopping Sealant: Silicone based, premixed sealant with intumescent properties, vibration and moisture resistant, rated for three (3) hours per ASTM E814 and UL 1479 with metal collars.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION INSERTS

A. Provide inserts for placement in concrete forms.

B. Provide inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams.

C. Provide hooked rod to concrete reinforcement section for inserts carrying pipe over 4 in. (101.6 mm).

D. Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, locate inserts flush with slab surface.

3.2 INSTALLATION PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

A. Install in accordance with MSS SP-69 and MSS SP-89.

B. Install hangers to provide minimum 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) space between finished covering and adjacent work.

C. Place hangers within 12 in. (304.8 mm) of each horizontal elbow.

D. Use hangers with 1-1/2 in. (38.1 mm) minimum vertical adjustment. Design hangers for pipe movement without disengagement of supported pipe.

E. Support vertical piping at every floor. Support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping.

F. Where several pipes can be installed in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers.

G. Provide copper plated hangers and supports for copper piping.

H. Prime coat exposed steel hangers and supports. Refer to Section 099123. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipe shafts, and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed.

I. Provide hangers adjacent to motor driven equipment with vibration isolation.

J. Metal Pipe Hanger Spacing:

1. Pipe Size: 1/2 (12.7 mm) to 1-1/4 in. (31.8 mm):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 6.5 ft (2 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 3/8 in. (9.5 mm).

2. Pipe Size: 1-1/2 (38.1 mm) to 2 in. (50.8 mm):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 10 ft (3.1 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 3/8 in. (9.5 mm).

3. Pipe Size: 2-1/2 (63.5 mm) to 3 in. (76.2 mm):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 10 ft (3.1 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 1/2 in. (12.7 mm)

4. Pipe Size: 4 (101.6 mm) to 6 in. (152.4 mm):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 10 ft (3.1 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 5/8 in. (15.9 mm).

5. Pipe Size: 8 (203.2 mm) to 12 in. (304.8 mm):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 14 ft (4.3 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 7/8 in. (22.2 mm).

6. Pipe Size: 14 in. (355.6 mm) and over:

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 20 ft (6.1 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 1 in. (25.4 mm).

7. Plastic Piping Hanger Spacing:

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 6 ft (1.8 m).

b. Hanger rod diameter: 3/8 in. (9.5 mm).

8. Cast Iron (Bell and spigot, or hubless):

a. Maximum hanger spacing: 5 ft (1.5 m) and at joints.

b. Hanger rod diameter: 5/8 in. (15.9 mm).

3.3 INSTALLATION - DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

A. Low Velocity Ducts:

1. Hanger Minimum Sizes: per SMACNA, HVAC Duct Construction Standards.

2. Covered Ducts: Install hangers below insulation with rod hangers.

3. Lined Ducts: Install hangers below duct; sheet metal duct not punctured.

4. Install hangers, supports to permit free, noiseless expansion and contraction.

B. Medium and High Velocity Ducts: Per SMACNA, HVAC Duct Construction Standards.

3.4 INSTALLATION - FLASHING

A. Provide flexible flashing and metal Counterflashing where piping and ductwork penetrate weather or waterproofed walls, floors, and roofs.

B. Flash vent and soil pipes projecting 3 in. (76.2 mm) minimum above finished roof surface with lead worked 1 in. (25.4 mm) minimum into hub, 8 in. (203.2 mm) minimum clear on sides with 24 (609.6 mm) x 24 in. (609.6 mm) sheet size. For pipes through outside walls, turn flanges back into wall and caulk, metal counter-flash, and seal.

C. Flash floor drains in floors with topping over finished areas with lead, 10 in. (254 mm) clear on sides with minimum 36 (914.4 mm)x 36 in. (914.4 mm) sheet size. Fasten flashing to drain clamp device.

D. Seal floor drains watertight to adjacent materials.

E. Provide acoustical lead flashing around ducts and pipes penetrating equipment rooms for sound control.

F. Provide curbs for mechanical roof installations 14 in. (355.6 mm) minimum high above roofing surface. Flash and counter-flash with sheet metal; seal watertight. Attach Counterflashing mechanical equipment and lap base flashing on roof curbs. Flatten and solder joints.

3.5 INSTALLATION - SLEEVES

A. Set sleeves in position in forms. Provide reinforcing around sleeves.

B. Size sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and contraction. Provide for continuous insulation wrapping.

C. Extend sleeves through floors 1 in. (25.4 mm) above finished floor level. Caulk sleeves.

D. Where piping or ductwork penetrates floor, ceiling, or wall, close off space between pipe or duct and adjacent work with fire stopping insulation and caulk airtight. Provide close fitting metal collar or escutcheon covers at both sides of penetration.

E. Install chrome plated steel escutcheons at finished surfaces.
