SECTION 221119 – DOMESTIC WATER
PIPING SPECIALTIES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 WORK INCLUDES
A. Base Bid:
1. Plumbing contractor Provide:
a. Water hammer arrestors.
b. Air chambers.
1.2 RELATED WORK

1.3 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
A. Illinois State Plumbing Code, 1998.
B. Plumbing and Drainage Institute, PDI.
C. Illinois Accessibility Code, April 24, 1997.
D. State of Illinois Department of Public Health Rules and Regulations.
E. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):
1. NFPA 13 - Installation of Sprinkler Systems.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit in accordance with Section 013300.
B. Product Data:
1. Manufacturer's product data and installation instructions.

1.5 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA
A. Submit operation data in accord with Section 017823.
B. Include manufacturer’s descriptive literature, operating instructions, maintenance and repair data, and parts listing.
1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver material to site in factory-fabricated containers with labeling in place. Inspect for damage.
B. Store material in original wrappings and protect from weather and construction traffic.
C. Protect against dirt, water, chemical and mechanical damage.
D. Remove damaged materials from project site. Do not install.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 WATER HAMMER ARRESTORS
A. ANSI A112.26.1: sized in accordance with PDI WH-201, precharged suitable for operation in temperature range – 100 to 300°F(-73 to 149°C) and a maximum 250 psig (1,700 Kpa) working pressure:

2.2 AIR CHAMBERS
A. Fit water supply to each fixture or group of fixtures with air chambers:
1. Same size as supply line or 3/4 in. (19.1 mm) minimum, and minimum 18 in. (457.2 mm) long; or extend vertically up with capped top as follows:
a. Flush valves, full pipe diameter: 24 in. (609.6 mm) minimum length.
b. Others, full pipe diameter: 8 in. (203.2 mm) minimum length.
c. Mains, full pipe diameter: 24 in. (609.6 mm) minimum length.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install plumbing specialties in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
B. Exposed Water Piping in Finished Rooms: Chrome plated.
C. Install approved potable water protection devices on plumbing lines where contamination of domestic water may occur; on boiler feed water lines, janitor rooms, flush valves, interior and exterior hose bibs.
D. Install air chambers on hot and cold water supply piping to each fixture.
