The publications listed below form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. The publications are referred to within the text by the basic designation only.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

Government approval is required for submittals with a "G" designation;

submittals not having a "G" designation are for information only. When used, a designation following the "G" designation identifies the office that will review the submittal for the Government. Submittals with an "S" are for inclusion in the Sustainability eNotebook, in conformance to Section 01 33 29 SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.3.1 Single Source Responsibility

Netting and all parts / accessories of the bird netting shall be from one manufacturer for entire project

2. Visit site and field measure prior to fabrication and delivery of materials.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 BIRD CONTROL DEVICES

Bird intrusion prevention systems designed and installed by system Installer. System shall include one or more devices as required to protect the entire interior area of the hangar. Submit descriptive information from the manufacturer including catalogs, installation instructions and other descriptive material. Submit samples of each type of bird control device used, including proposed fastening methods and hardware.

2.1.1 Bird Netting

Polyethylene fabric bird netting shall stop sparrow, starlings and pigeons from roosting on the building structure.

1. Material: U.V. stabilized knotted polyethylene net. Flame resistant ( 270°F melting point). Rot-proof, non-conductive and stable in subzero temperatures.

2. Construction: 12/6 Bird netting, comprised of 6 monofilaments, each 12/1000 inch thick with U.V. stabilizers added. Monofilaments are twisted together to produce a strong twine with 610-630 twists per meter.

3. Break Strength: ISO 1806 protocol mesh tested in excess of 40 lbs .

Proof of Test Certification Available.

4. Sizes: As required to protect against locally prevalent types of birds.

5. Hardware: All metal hardware or products are galvanized or stainless steel.

2.1.1.1 Netting Mounting Systems

1. Solid Steel: For corner attachments use Bird-B-Gone eye bolts with lock nuts. For intermediate attachments, use multipurpose cable brackets with powder actuated fire-in-pins.

S2. Steel I-Beams: For corner attachments, use eye bolts with lock nuts.

For intermediate attachments, use the appropriate size girder clips.

3. Sheet Metal: For both corner and intermediate attachments, use multipurpose cable brackets with self-tapping screws.

2.1.2 Bird Spikes

Strong, rigid unbreakable polycarbonate bird spikes designed to prevent birds from landing on and/or nesting.

1. Material: U.V. stabilized Polycarbonate. Heat and weather resistant (+310°F to –200°F). Non-conductive and will not interfere with electronic security systems or transmissions.

2. Construction: Rigid one piece construction, available in 7 standard colors including crystal clear.

3. Adaptation: “Break away” points are located between each set of screw holes. Tin snips, hacksaw, etc. can also be used to cut the product to the desired length.

2.1.2.1 Mounting Systems

1. Steel, Masonry, or Concrete: Use an outdoor construction adhesive that is non-silicone based. Purchase from the manufacturer or call for recommended adhesives. If mounting surface warrants, screw or bolt down spikes in conjunction with using the adhesive.

2. Pipes or Poles: Ty-Wraps can be used alone or in conjunction with an outdoor construction adhesive. For U.V. protected Ty-Wraps, purchase directly from the manufacturer or call for recommended products.

2.1.3 Bird Slopes

Angled PVC panels designed to prevent birds from landing on and/or nesting.

1. Material: U.V. protected outdoor grade PVC plastic (sun & weather resistant).

2. Construction: Rigid one-piece construction.

3. Adaptation: Cut to desired width / length using tablesaw, hacksaw or tin snips.

4. End Caps: Use to close off ends of installations as necessary.

5. Mounting System: As determined by the manufacturer and based on project conditions.

2.1.4 Bird Wire

Wire stretched along potential linear bird landing areas.

1. Wire: 0.0177 inch 1 x 7 stainless steel wire, U.V. stabilized clear nylon coated to 0.7 mm finished diameter.

2. Crimps: Nickel-plated copper.

3. Metal Hardware: 316-grade stainless steel.

4. Plastic Hardware: High impact U.V. stabilized thermoplastic.

5. Number of Rows: As determined by the manufacturer and based on project conditions.

2.1.4.1 Mounting Systems

Concrete or Masonry: Insert posts into the appropriate mounting base.

1. Anchor Rivets and Split Pins: Drill into surface. Length of attachments should be comparable with the depth of mounting surface.

2. Stick-on-bases: Use outdoor construction adhesive along with

SECTION 10 81 00 Page 4 self-tapping screws to secure installation. Allow adhesive to dry overnight.

3. Stainless Steel Base with posts included: Use outdoor construction adhesive along with self-tapping screws to secure installation. Allow adhesive to dry overnight.

Sheet Metal, Steel or Marble: Use stick-on bases with an outdoor construction adhesive. Allow adhesive to dry overnight.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

Examine the installation area and note any detrimental or hazardous work conditions. Notify Contractor of the detrimental work conditions. Do not proceed with installation until conditions are corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

3.2.1 Surface Preparation

Surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and free of bird droppings, nesting materials, rust, peeling paint or other debris.

3.3 INSTALLATION

Furnish all anchor devices required to fasten systems to and around existing building structure. Coordinate installation with existing conditions and within on-site tolerances.

3.3.1 Bird Netting

Install netting as recommended by the manufacturer. Bird netting shall fit the area to be protected perfectly so pest birds cannot enter the protected area, and so the netting blends with the architecture.

1. Bird netting correct mesh sizes shall be determined to ensure exclusion of the correct local pest bird.

2. Bird netting shall be installed tightly and securely to ensure a long-lasting installation that is visually hard to see.

3.3.2 Bird Spikes

Install Polycarbonate Bird Spikes as recommended by the manufacturer.

Spikes should be installed correctly, covering the entire depth of the surface, not just the perimeter.

1. Follow the contours and angles closely: cut or break away to fit properly.

2. Space materials in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

3.3.3 Bird Slopes

Install Bird Slopes as recommended by the manufacturer, covering the entire depth of the surface.

3. Use End Caps to close off where necessary.

3.3.4 Bird Wire

Install bird wire as recommended by the manufacturer and should be installed correctly, covering the entire depth of the surface, not just the perimeter.
