1.4 STORAGE

Store removed windows and components on edge, out of contact with the ground, under weathertight covering, and arranged to avoid bending, warping, or other damage.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

2.1.1 SELF ADHERING AIR BARRIER

Provide minimum 0.040 inch thick self-adhering, vapor permeable, air barrier membrane consisting of a cross-laminated high density polyethylene (HDPE) film, fully coated with rubberized asphalt adhesive. Provide membrane in rolls of various widths interleaved with disposable silicone release paper. Self-adhering air barrier must exhibit no visible water leakage when tested in accordance with ASTM E331 and must perform as a liquid water drainage plane flashed to discharge to the exterior any incidental condensation or water penetration. Use regular or low temperature formulation depending on site conditions, within temperature ranges specified by manufacturer.

2.1.2 Screws and Bolts

ASME B18.6.3 as applicable.

2.2 ACCESSORIES

Provide windows with hardware, clips, anchors, glazing beads, and fastenings, necessary for complete installation.

2.2.1 Anchors

Use hot-dip galvanized steel anchors. Secure anchors and fastenings to heads, jambs, and sills of openings, and fasten securely to windows or frames. Use anchors recommended by window manufacturer for specific type of construction and conceal. Anchor each frame at jambs with minimum of three adjustable steel anchors.

2.2.2 Fasteners

Stainless steel or aluminum materials as required to match frame material. Prime exposed heads of coated or plated fasteners and finish to match adjacent material.

2.2.3 Metal Sub-frames and Stools

If required to match original windows, provide standard type designed to suit the particular window. Match exposed surfaces to windows.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

Examine all windows, glazed entrances, and other glazed openings for condition of frames and existing glass. Document examination and prepare schedule of work required for each framed window and glazed entrance unit. Include itemized list of defects that preclude weathertight

SECTION 08 51 00 Page 3 conditions.

Submit digital photgraphs of each type window with location referenced to the schedule.

3.2 REMOVAL AND RE-FINISHING CLERESTORY WINDOWS

Remove existing clerestory window units by extracting existing fasteners such that the frames remain undamaged and reusable. Remove all traces of existing sealant and caulking from window frame components. Clean and remove oil residue, mold, mildew, and other stains from the frame components.

Remove existing glass and prepare and paint frames as specified in Section 09 90 00 PAINTS AND COATINGS; color to match existing color.

Install new clear tempered glass into frames prior to re-installation or after frames are re-installed at contractors option.

3.3 WINDOW OPENING PREPARATION

Strip and remove existing caulking, sealant, and flashing down to the existing building jamb, head and sill framing. Install self-adhering air-barrier material to all perimeter surfaces. Install metal flashing at heads, jambs, and sills of same metal as used for original installation and of same configuration.

3.4 CLERESTORY WINDOW RE-INSTALLATION

Install re-finished window units without forcing into prepared window openings. Install windows in same location and orientation as they were previously. Set at proper elevation, location, and reveal; plumb, square, level, and in alignment. Brace and stay to prevent distortion and misalignment. Bed screws or bolts in sill members, joints at mullions, contacts of windows with sills, built-in fins, and subframes in mastic sealant. Install and seal windows in a manner that will prevent entrance of water and wind.

Any materials that show visual evidence of biological growth due to the presence of moisture must not be installed on the building project.

3.5 REPAIR OF GROUND FLOOR GLAZED OPENINGS

Clean and remove oil residue, mold, mildew, and other stains from the metal frame components. Remove all broken or cracked glass and replace with clear tempered glass as specified in Section 08 80 00 GLAZING. Use new glazing materials for new glass. Replace exterior sealant and interiou caulking as required to make glazed openings weathertight.

3.6 ANCHORS AND FASTENINGS

Make provision for securing units to each other and to adjoining construction. Build in new anchors and fastenings to jambs of openings and fasten securely to windows or frames and to adjoining construction.

Space new anchors not more than 16 inches apart on jambs and sills, and install a minimum of three anchors on each side of each opening. Anchors and fastenings must have sufficient strength to hold member firmly in position. Where type, size, or spacing of anchors is not shown or specified, use expansion or toggle bolts or screws as best suited to construction material. Provide expansion shield and bolt assemblies of

SECTION 08 51 00 Page 4 type designed to give holding power beyond tensile and shearing strength of bolt. Minimum fastener penetration must be not less than that recommended by manufacturer for type fastener and wall material involved.

3.7 WEATHERSTRIPPING

As required to match original installation, provide bronze, spring-brass, or stainless steel and secure with non-ferrous screws. Secure weatherstripping or rubbing-blocks to parting-strip and each end of meeting-rails. For solid bar stock windows, use weatherstripping inserted into groove.

Install new sealant to exterior perimeter of window units and apply new caulking to interior perimeter as specified in Sectin 07 92 00 JOINT

SEALANTS.

3.8 ADJUSTMENTS AFTER INSTALLATION

After installation of windows and completion of glazing and field painting, adjust units as required to provide weathertight sealing.
