About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Clean Salt Water Ballast tank (9-64-2-W) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). The specific work includes commercial blast cleaning of the tank, visual inspection for coating and structural integrity, and comprehensive repair procedures involving welding, plate replacement, and surface preparation. The work is detailed across multiple sections, specifying requirements for cleaning to Level III standards, repairing up to one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removal and replacement of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and 4 linear feet of defective stiffener.
The TGI is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project scheduled from January 12, 2026, to May 15, 2027, at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base. The document includes specific technical requirements, references to standard items, drawings, and maintenance manuals, and notes additional services to be provided by SRF-JRMC, such as crane services, utility services, safety inspections, and technical support. Special requirements include working near fire zone boundaries and potential lead hazards, with a need for non-flammable closures and adherence to specific coating and preservation standards.
