About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the potable water tank (9-74-0-W) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). The TGI details specific technical requirements for maintenance work, including disconnecting and reconnecting potable water system piping, commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection, and repair of the tank. Key procedures include chlorination and bacteriological testing, surface preparation to SSPC-SP 6 standards, welding and plate replacement, and coating application.

The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with multiple locations of work including the potable water tank, dry provisions storeroom, and small arms magazine. Special requirements include working around fire zone boundaries, maintaining Level II cleanliness for piping systems, and addressing potential lead and asbestos hazards. The document includes detailed material lists for adhesives, coatings, and pipe insulation, and notes that the project is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance effort for the USS BLUE RIDGE at the US Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center.
