About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Clean Salt Water Ballast Tank (9-52-2-W) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). The TGI provides detailed instructions for a comprehensive maintenance process, including visual inspection, repair of deteriorated welds and plates, removal and installation of tank vent and air escape piping, and preservation of surfaces. Specific requirements include welding repairs totaling one linear foot of damaged welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removal and installation of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and preservation of 933 square feet of defective painted surfaces.

The work is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project scheduled from January 12, 2026, to May 15, 2027, at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base. The TGI highlights special requirements such as working around fire zone boundaries, requiring a non-flammable closure, and addressing potential lead hazards. The task will be performed by SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center), with specific technical and quality assurance services provided, including crane services, utility services, safety inspections, and technical support.
