About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), specifically focused on cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Distillate Fuel Overflow or Ballast tank (9-64-0-F). The TGI provides detailed instructions for maintenance work to be performed, including visual inspections, general cleaning at Level III, manhole cover installations, welding repairs, and preservation of various tank and compartment spaces. The work involves removing unused heating coil piping, repairing structural members, and addressing potential lead and asbestos hazards.
The task is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project scheduled from January 12, 2026, to May 15, 2027, at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base. The instruction includes specific technical requirements such as vee-out and weld repairs, base metal weld buildup, plate replacements, and non-destructive testing. The work will be conducted across multiple spaces including salt water ballast tanks, potable water tanks, and various storerooms, with careful attention to fire zone boundaries and requiring non-flammable closures during the repair process.
