About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Peak Tank (9-FP-0-W) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project. The specific work involves commercial blast cleaning of the tank, conducting a comprehensive visual inspection for coating condition and structural integrity, repairing tank components including welding and plate replacement, and applying new preservation coatings. The work includes repairing up to one linear foot of deteriorated welds, performing base metal weld buildup on 60 square inches of plate defects, removing and replacing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and replacing 4 linear feet of defective stiffener.
The TGI is scheduled for execution from January 12, 2026, to May 15, 2027, as part of a broader Docking-Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA) maintenance project at the US Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC). The work will be performed with specific requirements for cleaning (Level III), surface preparation (SSPC-SP-6), and coating application, with detailed instructions for inspection, repair, and documentation. Special requirements include working around a fire zone boundary and potential lead hazards, with the contractor responsible for providing comprehensive labor, management, quality control, safety, and environmental management services.
