About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for structural repair and preservation work on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), specifically focusing on repair and preservation of structural members in the Sprinkler Maintenance Room (7-68-2-Q) and adjacent spaces. The detailed instruction covers multiple locations including the Small Arms Magazine, Passage, and Distillate Fuel Overflow/Ballast areas, with specific requirements for removing and replacing bulkhead plates, insulation coaming, and conducting preservation work on interior surfaces totaling 195 square feet.
The work involves precise technical specifications, including removing existing temporary doubler plates, fabricating and installing new components, welding, and conducting air hose tests with zero allowable leakage. The instruction identifies potential lead and asbestos hazards and requires special considerations for fire zone boundaries, including the fabrication of a non-flammable closure. The contractor work is scheduled to start on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with multiple planning and technical references provided, including NAVSEA Standard Items and specific repair plan documents. The work will be performed at the Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan.
