About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Distillate Fuel or Ballast tank (9-8-0-F) on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The work is scheduled to begin on 7/21/2026 and complete by 10/21/2027, with a total scope of 7,000 square feet of interior tank surface. Key requirements include commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection for coating and structural integrity, and comprehensive repair work involving welding, plate replacement, and surface preparation.

The task involves multiple technical specifications, including Level III general cleaning, manhole cover installation, and surface preparation to SSPC-SP 6 standards. Specific repair tasks include welding one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removal and replacement of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and 4 linear feet of defective stiffener. The work affects a fire zone boundary, requiring a non-flammable closure, and involves potential lead hazard considerations. The estimated labor is 4,983 man-hours, with various specialized tasks performed by different trades including laborers, painters, welders, and quality assurance personnel.
