About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning and repairing distillate fuel or ballast tanks (9-40-0-F) and clean salt water ballast tanks (9-40-1-W) on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The work is to be performed at multiple locations including the distillate fuel/ballast tank, clean salt water ballast tank, air conditioning machinery room, CHT Tank No. One, SD Storeroom, and underwater hull weather area. The project involves comprehensive tank maintenance including general cleaning (Level III), manhole cover installation, structural repairs such as weld rebuilding, plate and stiffener replacement, removing obsolete brackets and piping, and installing new components like pipe hanger liners and drainage system caps.
The contractor work is scheduled to start on 7/21/2026 and complete by 10/21/2027, with an estimated 1,773 total man-hours and a material cost of $135. The instruction includes specific technical requirements for repair work, such as vee-out and welding of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup, plate and stiffener replacement, and non-destructive testing. Special requirements include working near a fire zone boundary and fabricating a non-flammable closure. The document references multiple naval standard items, drawings, and technical specifications to guide the repair and maintenance process.
