About this file
This file describes the wastewater collection and treatment system requirements for a Department of Defense facility in an overseas location. The system includes gravity and force mains directing wastewater to holding tanks within and just outside the U.S. compound. There is no on-site wastewater treatment. The contractor must pump approximately 5.5 million gallons of wastewater, sewage, and sludge per month from the tanks and portable toilets to an off-site treatment and disposal facility. The file inventories the holding tanks, portable toilets, and required collection frequencies. It also references technical documents outlining the wastewater infrastructure and standards for wastewater collection and control.

Wastewater System Description and Inventory
The contractor is responsible for pumping wastewater from all locations based on the total gallons provided in the contract. There is no on-site wastewater treatment available.
The wastewater collection system on the LSA consists of gravity and force mains that direct the flow to a series of holding tanks located within and directly outside of the U.S. compound. Wastewater collected in these tanks is to be pumped out by the contractor and then trucked off site for treatment and disposal. There is no existing integrated wastewater collection system in the Flightline area. The existing ablution units in the Flightline are serviced by stand-alone wastewater holding tanks serviced by the contractor.
In the area north of Broadway Road (the Main Access Road), approximately 979 meters of 4-inch gravity sewer were installed in 2003 that direct the wastewater to a lift station in the southeastern corner of the former WRM area. The pumps and force main from this lift station have not been installed.
The area south of Broadway Road known as the Exercise Area, there are two lift stations with force mains that manifold together into a single main that discharges into the aforementioned holding tanks outside of the U.S.
compound. The easternmost lift station is now abandoned but formerly collected wastewater from a group of nearby ablution units. It was noted that the gravity lines from the latrine RLBs to the lift station have a very shallow grade that has a history of clogging. The larger lift station has a storage capacity of 50,000 gallons. It receives wastewater flow via a 4-inch gravity line that services a row of 8 ablution units, the medical clinic and the office building 6000.
Attachment J-1604000-04 Wastewater Tank, Portable Toilet Inventories Collection Frequency and Quantity.
The inventory of sewage holding tanks, portable toilets, frequencies of tank emptying and cleaning and estimated quantity is provided in the file named “1604000 J-04 Tank Inventory and Frequency.xlxs”
The estimated sewage and sludge removal is approximately 5.5 million gallons per month.
