WBS Dictionary Description

Family of Advanced Beyond-Line-of-Sight Terminals (FAB-T) – The FAB-T provides the strategic nuclear and non-nuclear command and control with Extremely High Frequency (EHF), wideband, protected and survivable communications terminals for Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communications.

The FAB-T is part of the terminal and control segments of the Advanced EHF (AEHF) satellite system.

It is required to provide Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) of the AEHF and Milstar satellites and to fully utilize the increased capacity of the AEHF constellation. The FAB-T program will develop and field airborne and ground based Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) terminal capability.

FAB-T provides both wideband and survivable protected communications to the strategic and tactical warfighter. Terminals are compatible with AEHF satellites and legacy Milstar EHF satellite systems.

1.1 FAB-T Prime Mission Product (PMP) – Refers to the prime equipment on the FAB-T Program. The family of terminals concept requires a flexible architecture to accommodate a wide range of applications, backward compatibility issues, expected growth in requirements, and emergence of new technologies.

FAB-T has a common design approach with common interfaces that work across multiple platforms and multiple applications. FAB-T also has multiple configurations available to meet various user’s needs and an architecture that can be modified (or extended) to incorporate technology/capability upgrades.

Layers that make up the FAB-T System include the Antenna Layer (AL), the Modem Processor Layer (MPL), and the Baseband Devices Layer (BDL). In addition, a Data Set Manager (DSM) provides key functionality, such as communications mission planning, to the operation of FAB-T. The equipment sets that comprise the three layers, along with the support equipment, are defined in the following WBS.
