PART 3 – EXECUTION:

11. INSPECTION:

11.1 Verify that prepared soil BASE is ready to receive the work of this Section.

12. PREPARATION OF SUBSOIL:

12.2 Remove foreign materials, weeds, and undesirable plants and their roots. Remove contaminated subsoil.

12.3 Scarify subsoil to a depth of 3 inches where topsoil is to be placed. Repeat cultivation in areas where equipment, used for hauling and spreading topsoil, has compacted subsoil.

13. PLACING TOPSOIL:

13.1 Spread topsoil to a minimum depth of 4 inches over area to be seeded. Rake until smooth.

Organic Material 15% to 25% by dry weight of total sample (organic matter is to be determined by loss-on-ignition of oven-dried material IAW

ASTM D-2974).

Silt 15% to 40% by dry weight of the total sample.

Sand 35% to 55% by dry weight of the total sample.

2936- 3

Place topsoil during dry weather and on dry unfrozen sub-grade. Remove vegetable matter and foreign non-organic material while spreading.

13.2 Grade to eliminate rough, low, or soft areas, and to ensure positive drainage. Install edging at periphery of seeded areas in straight lines to consistent depth.

13.3 Lightly compact placed topsoil until surface does not compact further with each passage of a roller weighing approx 50 lbs per linear foot of roller.

13.4 Install edging at periphery of seeded areas in straight lines to consistent depth.

14. FERTILIZING:

14.1 Apply fertilizer in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

14.2 Apply after smooth raking of topsoil and prior to roller compaction.
