About this file
This is a Payment Bond form (SF-25A, FAA Template No. 15) used to protect persons supplying labor and material under federal contracts requiring payment bonds pursuant to the Act of August 24, 1935 (40 USC 270a-270e).
The form requires the principal contractor to identify their legal name, business address, and type of organization (individual, partnership, joint venture, or corporation). The surety or sureties must be identified with their names and business addresses. The penal sum of the bond is expressed as a percentage of the bid price and must not be executed later than the contract date. The form captures bid identification information including bid date and invitation number. The principal and surety(ies) bind themselves jointly and severally to the United States Government for payment of the penal sum. The obligation becomes void if the principal promptly makes payment to all persons having a direct relationship with the principal or subcontractors for furnishing labor, material, or both in the prosecution of work under the identified contract and any authorized modifications. Corporate sureties must appear on the Department of the Treasury's list of approved sureties and act within listed limitations. Individual sureties must submit a completed Affidavit of Individual Surety (Standard Form 28). Corporations must affix corporate seals; individuals must execute opposite the "Corporate Seal" designation and affix adhesive seals if required by jurisdiction. The form provides spaces for up to seven corporate sureties with their respective state of incorporation and liability limits.
