About this file
This is a specification document for painted traffic lines and markings, related to Montgomery Township's Canterbury Storm Sewer Replacement project in Pennsylvania. The specification establishes requirements for applying traffic lines and markings as part of roadway restoration work, with materials and application methods governed by PennDOT Publication 408 and Pennsylvania Code Chapter 212, Subchapter C. The work encompasses application of center lines, lane lines, edge lines, crosswalks, stop bars, and symbols using machine-applied methods capable of simultaneously applying two 4-inch parallel lines in solid or broken patterns, with automatic glass bead dispensing and continuous length measurement. Application is restricted to temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with paint applied at a wet film thickness of 15 mils and glass beads at 6 pounds per gallon. Protection of painted surfaces must be maintained for at least 30 minutes or until paint is dry and track-free from vehicular traffic for conventional paint, with low heat paint requiring protection until dry and track-free. The specification requires field verification of edge line placement on roadway sections 20 feet or greater in width, removal and repainting of defective or incorrectly placed markings, and proper centerline application over existing markings or at correct locations as determined by the engineer.
The specification does not address pricing, set-asides, funding sources, or contract terms, as it functions solely as a technical standard document governing execution and quality of painted traffic markings work. Contractors must comply with prevailing wage requirements under Pennsylvania's Act 422 and employment verification provisions under Act 127 during the performance of all work including traffic line application.
