About this file
This document is a no-smoking policy notification from the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital addressed to veterans and other campus visitors. The policy, effective October 1, 2019, prohibits all tobacco use and possession on the VA campus, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, and electronic smoking devices. Individuals who do not comply may receive a Federal citation, and the hospital encourages leaving all tobacco products at home, particularly in areas with oxygen and other gases to reduce fire risks.
The document is part of a federal contract opportunity (Solicitation Number 36C25225R0036_3) for renovating elevators at the Hines VA Hospital, issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration. The no-smoking policy appears to be an attachment to the solicitation documents, specifically related to site safety and environmental conditions for contractors and visitors during the renovation project.

VA U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital 5000 S. 5th Avenue Hines, IL 60141 708-202-8387
Veterans Health Administration
Dear Veteran, The Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is changing our smoking policy to provide a safe and healthy environment. The policy covers all smoking and tobacco material including but not limited to:
• Cigarettes
• Cigars
• Pipes
• Chewing tobacco
• Vape pens, e-cigarettes, or e-cigars.
Beginning October 1, 2019, smoking and tobacco use will no longer be allowed on the VA campus for patients, visitors, contractors, volunteers, vendors, and employees. Those unable to comply with this change may receive a Federal citation (ticket).
You are encouraged to leave all tobacco products and devices at home. To reduce the risk of fire near oxygen and other gases used at our site, you may be required to store tobacco products and devices if visiting certain areas of the hospital.
Hines VA can help Veterans quit tobacco use. If you would like more information about this service, please contact your Primary Care Team.
Thank you for serving our country and allowing us to care for you.
Steven E. Braverman, M.D.
Hospital Director
