Manufacturing and Reproducing Magnetic and Optical Media

NAICS 33461 encompasses the manufacturing and reproduction of magnetic and optical media, focusing on specialized electronic and digital storage technologies. This category includes the production of compact discs, digital versatile discs, hard drives, and other digital storage and recording media. Products range from computer and server storage components to specialized optical and magnetic recording systems used across various technological and scientific domains.

Federal contract opportunities under this NAICS code demonstrate significant activity in government technology procurement, particularly for federal agencies like the Department of Defense, Department of the Interior, and Department of Veterans Affairs. Typical awards involve licensing for software platforms, specialized optical and digital recording equipment, and technical support services. Most opportunities are set aside for small businesses, with contract values ranging from approximately $25,000 to $250,000 and performance periods spanning one to three years. Common procurement approaches include firm-fixed-price purchase orders, lowest price technically acceptable evaluations, and brand-specific acquisitions justified by unique technical requirements.

Recent federal contract opportunities highlight diverse technological needs, including cybersecurity software licenses (Red Hat, Proofpoint), optical testing equipment, scientific research instruments, and specialized digital publishing systems. Solicitations originate from agencies such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Defense Logistics Agency, Naval Sea Systems Command, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Performance locations span military installations and research facilities nationwide, with a focus on supporting critical infrastructure, scientific research, and technological modernization efforts across federal agencies.
