ATTACHMENT E
MANUAL REQUIREMENTS
1. The engine manuals shall be of a level that a journeyman mechanic can perform any task without prior knowledge of the engine. The manuals shall provide instructions, illustrations, and other associated data for the operation, maintenance, service, inspection and repair of the engine. The manuals shall contain instructions and information for all engine components, assemblies, subassemblies, attachments, and accessories.
2. The contents of a complete set of engine technical manuals shall include the following:
a. Front Matter
i. Title page
ii. Table of contents
iii. An overview at the beginning of the manual describing the content and theory of operation.
iv. Safety precautions
b. Maintenance instructions to include removal and installation of engine components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies to include the operational checkouts following maintenance.
c. Service requirements and procedures for the engine, to include cleaning and lubrication.
d. Scheduled inspections, for example borescope, chip detectors, visual, calendar/flight hour and other preventative maintenance.
e. Repair instructions including blade blending, tolerances (wear and damage limits), allowable adjustments.
f. Troubleshooting trees/guides to include schematics that will enable isolation of a malfunction with possible corrective actions and operational checkouts.
3. Safety is paramount when performing any engine maintenance. All manuals shall contain clearly marked Warnings, Cautions and notes.
a. Warnings shall be used when there is a danger of injury or death to personnel
b. Cautions shall be used only when there is danger of damage to equipment/engine.
c. Notes may be used for added information that could aid personnel during performance of a task.
