5. Irrigate Cover Crop as required to promote growth. Irrigation shall be minimal to avoid competition with existing turf. Allow at minimum one watering to germinate seeds (either rain event or irrigation) and one watering post emergence (either rain event or irrigation).
6. Allow cover crop to over-winter. Allow radish cover crop to decompose in-situ, and mow / maintain annual rye cover crop to 3”height. Time dethatching and removal of vegetative debris with seeding schedule for spring 2015.
7. Seed with lawn seed.
8. Two weeks after seeding, apply LBA Application #2. (NOT IN CONTRACT)
9. See Section 32 93 10 “Liquid Biological Amendments” for additional LBA applications.
(NOT IN CONTRACT)

5. Rolling: Press sod firmly into contact with the sod bed by tamping, rolling, or by other methods approved by Contracting Officer to eliminate air pockets, provide true and even surfaces, ensure knitting and protect all exposed sod edges, but without displacement of the sod or deformation of the sod surface. Sod surface shall be smooth and free of depressions or lumps, and without gaps, seams and bare patches.
6. Watering: Water sod thoroughly at the rate of 5 gallons per square yard with a fine spray.
7. Mowing: The first mowing of sodded areas shall not be done until the sod is firmly rooted, as determined by the Contracting Officer, and securely in place. Not more than 40% of the grass leaf shall be removed by the initial or subsequent mowing.
8. Aeration: After sod has rooted sufficiently, as determined by the Contracting Officer, aerate the sod with a hollow tine aerator using 3/4 in tines on 2-inch spacing. The aerator should be a piston type aerator. A disk or rolling aerator is not acceptable. Harvest and discard aeration cores using sweepers or other approved devices. Topdress using sufficient original root zone soil mix to fill aeration holes and provide an additional 1/4" of root zone soil over entire area. Broom topdressing to smooth surface.
3.7 EROSION CONTROL
A. For soil left bare prior to seeding, refer to Section 01 57 23 “Temporary Storm Water Pollution Prevention.”
3.8 WATERING
A. Watering of Lawn Areas
1. First Week: The Contractor shall provide all labor and arrange for all watering necessary to establish an acceptable lawn. In the absence of adequate rainfall, watering shall be performed daily or as often as necessary during the first week and in sufficient quantities to maintain moist soil to a depth of at least 2 inches.
2. Second and Subsequent Weeks: The Contractor shall water the lawn as required to maintain adequate moisture, in the upper 5 inches of soil, necessary for the promotion of deep root growth.
3. Watering shall be done in a manner which will provide uniform coverage, prevent erosion due to application of excessive quantities over small areas, and prevent damage to the finished surface by the watering equipment. The Contractor shall furnish sufficient watering equipment to apply one complete coverage to the seeded areas in an 8 hour period.
3.9 REPAIR OF INSTALLED LAWNS
A. If lawn is damaged, remove damaged materials and replace with seed or sod, as originally installed.
B. If lawns exhibit unsatisfactory growth, perform soil testing for chemical properties, compaction and infiltration rates. Coordinate with testing defined in Section 32 93 10 “Liquid Biological Amendment (LBA)”. Adhere to Contracting Officer’s recommended remediation. Remediation

may include, but are not limited to, soil amendments, LBA treatments (NOT IN CONTRACT), or soil decompaction.
3.10 CLEANUP, PROTECTION AND EXCESS MATERIALS
A. Following the final acceptance of lawns, the Contractor shall immediately remove from the site all materials and equipment not required for any other planting or maintenance work.
B. Store materials and equipment remaining on site in locations which do not interfere with construction operations or maintenance activities.
C. The Contractor shall be responsible for keeping all paving surfaces clean during placement of planting soil mix and seeding operations.
D. Provide temporary protection to ensure work is without damage or deterioration after installation.
E. Protection of Drainage System: Protect existing drainage protection system at all drain inlets to prevent silt, materials or debris caused by planting operations from entering the drainage system.
