EXECUTION PART 3
3.1 LUMINAIRE INSTALLATION
A. Fasten luminaire to indicated structural supports.
JEFF - 181202 26 56 00-15
1. Use fastening methods and materials selected to resist seismic forces defined for the application and approved for by manufacturer.
B. Where Work of this section is to be flush or concealed, install so that it does not project beyond the finished lines of the surface into which the fixture is installed, unless otherwise designated.
C. Where indicated for fixtures installed recessed flush within wall construction, Contractor shall verify and supply all necessary mounting and installation hardware required to ensure a safe, secure, code compliant application.
1. If necessary, Contractor shall pre-order back boxes for fixture to be installed prior to arrival of optical/lamp assembly, in order to avoid compromises in schedule or damage to finished luminaire surfaces.
D. Lenses, Louvers, and Reflectors:
1. Wear special gloves, as approved by the fixture manufacturer, to preclude smudging or damaging the reflector surface when installing fixtures and lamps in fixtures with specular reflector material.
2. Install louvers and glare shields in place after the project is complete and dust free or provide with protective cover over louvers, UL listed for temporary lighting. Upon completion of Work, remove cover with special gloves indicated above.
E. Accessibility
1. Install equipment such as junction and pull boxes, fixture housing, transformers, ballasts, drivers, controls, and other apparatus that requires occasional maintenance, to be accessible and appropriate for mounting.
3.2 POLE INSTALLATION
A. Alignment: Align pole foundations and poles for optimum directional alignment of luminaires and their mounting provisions of the pole.
1. See Landscape Detail Drawings for additional direction and guidance.
B. Foundation-Mounted Poles: Mount pole with leveling nuts, and tighten top nuts to torque level recommended by pole manufacturer.
1. Use anchor bolts and nut selected to resist seismic forces defined for the application and approved by manufacturer.
2. Grout void between pole base and foundation. Use no-shrink or expanding concrete grout firmly packed to fill space.
3. Install base covers unless otherwise indicated.
4. Use a short length of ½ inch-diameter pipe to make a drain hole through grout. Arrange to drain condensation from interior of pole.
5. Refer to structural drawings for specifications for further installation requirements.
3.3 CORROSION PREVENTION
JEFF - 181202 26 56 00-16
A. Aluminum: Do not use in contact with earth or concrete. When in direct contact with a dissimilar metal or material, protect aluminum by insulation fittings or treatment.
B. Steel Conduits: Comply with applicable Division 26 section. In concrete foundations, wrap conduit with 0.010 inch thick, pipe wrapping plastic tape applied with a 50 percent overlap.
3.4 GROUNDING
A. Ground metal poles and support structures according to applicable Division 26 Section.
1. Install grounding electrode for each pole unless otherwise indicated.
2. Install grounding conductor pigtail in the base for connecting luminaire to grounding system.
B. Ground nonmetallic poles and support structures according to applicable Division 26 Section.
1. Install grounding electrode for each pole.
2. Install grounding conductor and conductor protector.
3. Ground metallic components of pole accessories and foundations.
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Execution requirements: Testing, Adjusting, and Focusing: refer to Projects General Conditions and Lighting Fixture Schedule.
B. Inspect each installed fixture for damage. Replace damaged fixtures and components to the satisfaction of the Contracting Officer.
C. Operate each luminaire after installation and connection for a period not to exceed 96 hours.
Inspect connections after operation.
D. If luminaires are believed to be underperforming in early life, the Site Owner may choose to take field measurements between 2,000 and 3,000 operating hours of the completion of installation to confirm that lighting levels are in accordance with the projected levels. If average light levels are more than 15% below the Day 1 submittal, and the luminaire locations in the field are as designed, the luminaire manufacturer must provide replacement luminaires for those tested.
3.6 AIMING AND FOCUSING
A. Contractor shall be responsible for final targeting/focusing of adjustable light fixtures under the observation of, and according to, the recommendations of the Contracting Officer or Lighting Designer. Aiming shall take place after dark at a mutually agreed upon time, after all relevant amenities’ have been installed.
B. All necessary equipment to complete aiming and focusing work including ladders, lifts, and personnel shall be supplied by the Contractor.
JEFF - 181202 26 56 00-17
C. Where made necessary by site conditions, Contractor shall provide surface protection for surrounding materials to protect from potential damage caused by the use of any lifts and related equipment used during the final lighting adjustments.
3.7 CLEANING
A. Execution Requirements: Final Cleaning (Refer to Project’s General Conditions)
B. Remove dirt and debris from enclosures.
3.8 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK
A. Execution Requirements: Protecting Finished Work (Refer to Project’s General Conditions).
