About this file
This is a Gas Turbine Maintenance Procedure document for the U.S. Navy applicable to the USS RAFAEL PERALTA (DDG-115). The procedure addresses Foreign Object Damage (FOD) protection installation for the 1A Gas Turbine Module (GTM) intake system during repair engine removal operations involving rail bracket and bimetallic joint work. Work Order 38K.6112303/ES01NA54 governs this maintenance activity under procedure number LM19-K6112303-ES01NA54, with originator K. SAITO and Code 285 oversight responsibility.
The procedure establishes comprehensive safety protocols, warnings, and cautions required throughout all phases of work, including mandatory briefings on safety requirements, restrictions on toxic MIL-PRF-23699 synthetic lube oil handling, prohibition of graphite or fluorocarbon markers, proper grounding of arc welding equipment, and strict Foreign Object Damage prevention measures. Operational phases include preparation (installation of FOD protection covers on air inlet screens, deck drain holes, intake silencer assembly, module cooling air inlet openings, moisture separator/blow-in panels, and perforated sheets around the engine removal rail), accomplishing work with additional FOD protection around scaffolded work areas, and restoration (cleaning, closeout inspection coordination between Ship's Force Chief Engineer and Code 285 representative, and work boundary access closure). All procedures require Work Center Supervisor sign-off with dates, and specific compartments must be inspected during closeout. The procedure references the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, Marine Gas Turbine Operating Instructions, Safety and Occupational Health Program Manual, LM2500 Gas Turbine Bulletin guidance on synthetic lubricants, and LM2500 Gas Turbine Special Shipboard Maintenance requirements.
