STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED
Clean, polish, inspect, and test the propellers identified in section 3.0, using References 2.1.1 through 2.1.3 and Enclosure 2.2.1 as guidance. Accomplish all tasks using IMO, SOLAS, and the Manufacturer’s requirements as guidance.
With the assistance of ship’s force, tag-out all required systems and equipment.
Clean and polish the propeller to meet the manufacturer’s design, installation, maintenance instructions, and service bulletin requirements using References 2.1.1 through 2.1.3 as guidance. Perform the following:
1.1.2 Remove all sea growth from the propeller, including, but not limited to: calcium deposits, sea grass, and barnacles. Cleaning must not result in damage to the propeller or the removal of propeller material. Utilize the following approved cleaning methods:
a. Hydro-blasting (High Pressure Water Jet Cleaning) may be used on all propellers and fairwater surfaces. Perform hydro-blasting immediately upon drydocking and before marine growth has dried. Hydro-blasting on unpainted propeller surfaces must not exceed 10,000 psi. Hydro-blasting on painted propeller surfaces must not exceed 2,000 psi.
b. Hand-cleaning methods such as scraping, and the use of brushes and pads. Plastic or hardwood scrapers, nylon, and polypropylene brushes such as A-1 and A-2, and hand-held plastic conditioning pads such as Scotch-Brite “Green” are acceptable for cleaning all propeller surfaces. It is preferred that the final cleaning operation of propeller blade edges (within 3 inches) be cleaned by hand with plastic surface conditioning pads. Do not attempt to round the edges of the blades with brushes and discs.
c. Powered cleaning processes. Only nylon and polypropylene brushes such as A-1 and A-2, and non-abrasive plastic surface conditioning discs such as Scotch-Brite “Green” may be used with power tools on less sensitive areas of painted propellers. Do not remove markings. Powered cleaning methods are not to be used within three (3) inches of blade edges, tips, cusps, fillets (excluding hub to blade interface), areas of high curvature, or other sensitive areas of the propeller(s). When cleaning the outer periphery of the blades, the brushes and discs must be kept flat on the blade surface.
1.2 Conduct an inspection of the propeller to meet the manufacturer’s design, installation, maintenance instructions and service bulletin requirements. Use References 2.1.1 through 2.1.3 and Enclosure 2.2.1 as guidance. Perform the following:
1.2.1 Examine all visible parts of the propeller. Inspect the hub, blades, and blade edges for cracks, curling, porosity, cavitation erosion, nicks, dents, bends, cable marks, flat spots, ridges, punch marks, and gouges. Verify that the propeller is free of conditions that may cause the propeller to become out of balance.
1.2.2 Photograph and record all markings.
1.3 Coordinate and conduct testing of the propeller to meet the manufacturer’s design, installation, maintenance instructions and service bulletin requirements. Conduct testing in the presence of the OMT REP and ABS Surveyor using References 2.1.1 through 2.1.3 as guidance. The testing includes/verifies:
1.3.1 Accomplish liquid penetrant NDT inspection of the entire propeller (blades and hub) as an aid in locating discontinuities.
1.4 Maintain workspaces in a clean condition during and upon completion of the work requirements. Prevent contamination of any adjacent equipment and spaces.
1.5 Upon completion of all inspections, tests and repairs, return the propeller to a ready for service condition.
1.6 With the assistance of ship’s force, tag-in all required systems and equipment.
1.7 Reports
1.7.1 Prepare and submit Enclosure 2.2.1 document any damage and/or discontinuities found during inspection and NDT. Submit one (1) electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF) to the OMT REP and one (1) electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF) to the ABS Surveyor.
1.7.2 When inspections, maintenance, servicing and testing reveal any deficiency, a condition report is to be submitted to the OMT REP with recommended repairs and parts required. Submit one (1) electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF).
1.7.3 Upon completion of all inspections, maintenance, servicing, and testing, prepare and submit a typewritten Service Report documenting the final “as released” condition of propeller(s) affirming they are safe for use. Submit one (1) electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF) of the report.
1.7.4 All reports and checklists are to be completed and signed by the person who carried out the inspections, maintenance, servicing, and testing and are to be countersigned by the Company's representative.
1.8 Painting/Lagging
1.8.1 Mechanically clean, prepare, prime, paint and restore all new, soiled, and disturbed surfaces to match surrounding surfaces.
1.9 Manufacturer’s Representative: None
