1.4 KEY BITTING CHART REQUIREMENTS
1.4.1 Submit key bitting charts to the Contracting Officer prior to completion of the work. Include:
1.4.1.1 Complete listing of all keys (AA1, AA2, etc.).
1.4.1.2 Complete listing of all key cuts (AA1-123456, AA2-123458).
1.4.1.3 Tabulation showing which key fits which door.
1.4.1.4 Copy of floor plan showing doors and door numbers.
1.4.1.5 Listing of 20 percent more key cuts than are presently required in each master system.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.5.1 Hardware Manufacturers and Modifications
1.5.1.1 Provide, as far as feasible, locks, hinges, pivots, and closers of one lock, hinge, pivot, or closer manufacturer's make. Modify hardware as necessary to provide features indicated or specified.
1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
1.6.1 Deliver hardware in original individual containers, complete with necessary appurtenances including fasteners and instructions. Mark each individual container with item number as shown in hardware schedule. Deliver permanent keys and removable cores to the Contracting Officer, either directly or by certified mail. Deliver construction master keys with the locks.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 TEMPLATE HARDWARE
2.1.1 Provide hardware to be applied to metal or to prefinished doors manufactured to template.
Promptly furnish template information or templates to door and frame manufacturers. Conform to BHMA A156.7 for template hinges. Coordinate hardware items to prevent interference with other hardware.
2.2 HARDWARE FOR FIRE DOORS AND EXIT DOORS
2.2.1 Provide all hardware necessary to meet the requirements of NFPA 80 for fire doors and NFPA 101 for exit doors, as well as to other requirements indicated, even if such hardware is not specifically mentioned under paragraph entitled "Hardware Schedule." Conform to UL 14C for swinging hardware for the tin-clad fire doors. Provide the label of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for such hardware listed in UL Bld Mat Dir or labeled and listed by another testing laboratory acceptable to the Contracting Officer.

2.3 HARDWARE ITEMS
2.3.1 Clearly and permanently mark with the manufacturer's name or trademark, hinges, pivots, locks, latches, exit devices, bolts and closers where the identifying mark will be visible after the item is installed. For closers with covers, the name or trademark may be beneath the cover.
2.3.1.1 Hinges
a. BHMA A156.1, ball bearing, 4-1/2 by 4-1/2 inch unless otherwise indicated. Construct loose pin hinges for exterior doors and reverse-bevel interior doors so that pins will be nonremovable when door is closed.
2.3.1.2 Pivots

2.3.1.4 Locks and Latches
a. Mortise Locks and Latches
(1) BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1, Security Grade 2. Provide factory-installed lead lining in locks for lead-shielded doors. Provide mortise locks with escutcheons not less than 7 by 2-1/4 inch with a bushing at least 1/4 inch long. Cut escutcheons to suit cylinders and provide trim items with straight, beveled, or smoothly rounded sides, corners, and edges. Install levers and roses of mortise locks with screwless shanks and no exposed screws.
b. Bored Locks and Latches
(1) BHMA A156.2, Series 4000, Grade 1. Provide factory-installed lead lining in locks for lead-shielded doors.
c. Residential Bored Locks and Latches
(1) BHMA A156.2, Series 4000, Grade 2. Install locks for exterior doors with threaded roses or concealed machine screws.
d. Interconnected Locks and Latches
(1) BHMA A156.12. Provide F96 or F97, unless otherwise specified.
e. Hospital Latches
(1) Push-pull latchset similar and equal to Glynn-Johnson HL6, 1/2 inch throw, 2-3/4 inch backset, to fit 161 cutout. Cover approximately 2-1/2 by 5-1/2 inch, handle approximately 1-1/2 by 4-1/2 inch, projection approximately 2-1/2 inch, covers and handles of stainless steel, BHMA 630 finish, engraved "PUSH" and "PULL" on handles, push handle pointing up, pull handle pointing down.
f. Auxiliary Locks
(1) BHMA A156.5, Grade 1.
g. Combination Locks
(1) Pharmacy door locks shall be keyed separately from building master key system. Heavy-

Attachment 1 duty, mechanical combination lockset with five pushbuttons, standard-sized knobs, 3/4 inch deadlocking latch, 2-3/4 inch backset. Operate the locks by pressing two or more of the buttons in unison or individually in the proper sequence. Inside knob will operate the latch.
Provide a keyed cylinder on the interior to permit setting the combination. Provide a thumb turn on the interior to activate passage set function, so that outside knob operates latch without using the combination if required.
h. Cypher Locks
(1) Cypher locks to be a push button mechanical lock grade 1, heavy duty lock and housing.
Cypher locks to be “Best EZ Series 10 pin keypad type”, lockset to have mortise lock and dead bolt with a key override lockout passage feature. Lockset shall be able to accept an interchangeable “Best” core.
2.3.1.5 Exit Devices
a. BHMA A156.3, Grade 1. Provide adjustable strikes for rim type and vertical rod devices.
Provide open back strikes for pairs of doors with mortise and vertical rod devices. Provide touch bars in lieu of conventional crossbars and arms. Provide escutcheons, not less than 7 by 2-1/4 inch.
2.3.1.6 Exit Locks With Alarm
a. BHMA A156.5, Type E0431 (with full-width horizontal actuating bar) for single doors; Type E0431 (with actuating bar) or E0471 (with actuating bar and top and bottom bolts, both leaves active) for pairs of doors, unless otherwise specified. Provide terminals for connection to remote indicating panel where indicated. Provide outside control key if required.
2.3.1.7 Cylinders and Cores
a. One of the following options shall be provided as indicated on the drawings or as selected:
(1) Provide cylinders and cores for new locks, including locks provided under other sections of this specification. Provide cylinders and cores with seven pin tumblers. Provide cylinders from products of one manufacturer, and provide cores from the products of one manufacturer. Rim cylinders, mortise cylinders, and knobs of bored locksets have interchangeable cores which are removable by special control keys. Stamp each interchangeable core with a key control symbol in a concealed place on the core.
(2) Provide cylinders for new locks, including locks provided under other sections of this specification. Provide fully compatible cylinders with products of the Best Lock Corporation with interchangeable cores which are removable by a special control key.
Factory set the cores with seven pin tumblers using the A4 system and F keyway. Submit a core code sheet with the cores. Provide master keyed cores in one system for this project.
Provide construction interchangeable cores.
(3) Provide cylinders and cores for new locks, including locks provided under other sections of this specification. Provide cylinders and cores with seven pin tumblers. Provide cylinders with interchangeable and fully compatible with products from Best Lock Corp., Arrow Lock Corp., or Falcon Lock which are removable by special control keys. Stamp each interchangeable core with a key control symbol in a concealed place on the core.
(4) Contractor shall install lockable/keyed construction cores until the permanent cores and keys are delivered and installed. A set of construction core keys shall be given to the Contracting Officer.

2.3.1.8 Keying System
a. One of the following as indicated on the drawings or as selected:
(1) Provide a grand master keying system if all new locks are provided or an extension of the existing keying system. Verify existing lock manufacturer and keying system. Provide key cabinet if specified.
(2) Provide sub-master keying system for the building, and keyed to the existing Best removable-core master and grand master keying systems. Key equipment spaces and mechanical rooms separately from the building systems, and keyed alike to the existing Best master and grand master systems for these doors. At Peterson AFB, key equipment rooms, mechanical, and electrical rooms to Corbin-Russwin Master System.
(3) The Contractor will provide permanent cylinders with cores and keys for mortise locksets, auxiliary locks, and exit devices. Furnish cylinders as manufactured by Best Lock Corp., Arrow Lock Corp., or Falcon Lock. Notify the Contracting Officer 90 days prior to the required delivery of the permanent cylinders, cores, and keys. Install lockable/keyed construction cores and provide a set of construction core keys to the Contracting Officer.
2.3.1.9 Lock Trim
a. Cast, forged, or heavy wrought construction and commercial plain design.
(1) Lever Handles
(a) Provide lever handles. Conform to the minimum requirements of BHMA A156.13 for mortise locks of lever handles for exit devices. Provide lever handle locks with a breakaway feature (such as a weakened spindle or a shear key) to prevent irreparable damage to the lock when force in excess of that specified in BHMA A156.13 is applied to the lever handle. Provide lever handles return to within 1/2 inch of the door face.
(2) Texture
(a) Provide knurled or abrasive coated lever handles for doors which are accessible to blind persons and which lead to dangerous areas.
2.3.1.10 Keys
a. Furnish one file key, one duplicate key, and one working key for each key change and for each master and grand master keying system. Furnish one additional working key for each lock of each keyed-alike group. Furnish two additional keys for each sleeping room. Furnish 2 construction master keys, and 2 control keys for removable cores. Furnish a quantity of key blanks equal to 20 percent of the total number of file keys. Stamp each key with appropriate key control symbol and "U.S. property - Do not duplicate." Do not place room number on keys.
2.3.1.11 Door Bolts
a. BHMA A156.16. Provide dustproof strikes for bottom bolts, except for doors having metal thresholds. Automatic latching flush bolts: BHMA A156.3, Type 25.
2.3.1.12 Closers
a. BHMA A156.4, Series C02000, Grade 1, with PT 4C. Provide with brackets, arms, mounting devices, fasteners, full size covers, except at storefront mounting, pivots, and other features necessary for the particular application. Size closers in accordance with manufacturer's

Attachment 1 recommendations, or provide multi-size closers, Sizes 1 through 6, and list sizes in the Hardware Schedule. Provide manufacturer's 10 year warranty.
(1) Identification Marking
(a) Engrave each closer with manufacturer's name or trademark, date of manufacture, and manufacturer's size designation located to be visible after installation.
2.3.1.13 Overhead Holders
a. BHMA A156.8.
2.3.1.14 Closer Holder-Release Devices
a. BHMA A156.15.
2.3.1.15 Door Protection Plates
a. BHMA A156.6.
(1) Sizes of Armor, Mop and Kick Plates
(a) 2 inch less than door width for single doors; one inch less than door width for pairs of doors. Provide 10 inch kick plates for flush doors and one inch less than height of bottom rail for panel doors. Provide a minimum 36 inch armor plates for flush doors and completely cover lower panels of panel doors, except 16 inch high armor plates on fire doors. Provide 4 inch mop plates.
2.3.1.16 Edge Guards
a. BHMA A156.6, stainless steel, of same height as armor plates.
2.3.1.17 Door Stops and Silencers
a. BHMA A156.16. Silencers Type L03011. Provide three silencers for each single door, two for each pair.
2.3.1.18 Padlocks
a. ASTM F 883.
2.3.1.19 Thresholds
a. BHMA A156.21. Use J35100, with vinyl or silicone rubber insert in face of stop, for exterior doors opening out, unless specified otherwise.
2.3.1.20 Weather Stripping Gasketing
a. BHMA A156.22. Provide the type and function designation where specified in paragraph entitled "Hardware Schedule". Provide a set to include head and jamb seals, sweep strips, and, for pairs of doors, astragals. Air leakage of weather stripped doors not to exceed 0.5 cubic feet per minute of air per square foot of door area when tested in accordance with ASTM E 283.
Provide weather stripping with one of the following:
(1) Extruded Aluminum Retainers
(a) Extruded aluminum retainers not less than 0.050 inch wall thickness with vinyl, neoprene, silicone rubber, or polyurethane inserts. Provide clear (natural) or bronze

(2) Interlocking Type
(a) Zinc or bronze not less than 0.018 inch thick.
(3) Spring Tension Type
(a) Spring bronze or stainless steel not less than 0.008 inch thick.
2.3.1.21 Lightproofing and Soundproofing Gasketing
a. BHMA A156.22. Include adjustable doorstops at head and jambs and an automatic door bottom per set, both of extruded aluminum, clear (natural) or bronze anodized, surface applied, with vinyl fin seals between plunger and housing. Provide doorstops with solid neoprene tube, silicone rubber, or closed-cell sponge gasket. Furnish door bottoms with adjustable operating rod and silicone rubber or closed-cell sponge neoprene gasket. Doorstops mitered at corners.
Provide the type and function designation where specified in paragraph entitled "Hardware Sets".
2.3.1.22 Rain Drips
a. Extruded aluminum, not less than 0.08 inch thick, clear or bronze anodized. Set drips in sealant and fasten with stainless steel screws.
(1) Door Rain Drips
(a) Approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 5/8 inch projection. Align bottom with bottom edge of door.
(2) Overhead Rain Drips
(a) Approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 2-1/2 inch projection, with length equal to overall width of door frame. Align bottom with door frame rabbet.
2.3.1.23 Special Tools
a. Provide special tools, such as spanner and socket wrenches and dogging keys, required to service and adjust hardware items.
2.4 FASTENERS
2.4.1 Provide fasteners of proper type, quality, size, quantity, and finish with hardware. Provide stainless steel or nonferrous metal fasteners that are exposed to weather. Provide fasteners of type necessary to accomplish a permanent installation.
2.5 FINISHES
2.5.1 BHMA A156.18. Provide hardware in BHMA 630 finish (satin stainless steel), or BHMA 626 finish (satin chromium plated) over brass or bronze, depending on Base standard. Items not available in BHMA 630 or BHMA 626 shall be furnished in a similar plated metal finish as selected by the Contracting Officer. Match exposed parts of concealed closers to lock and door trim. Match hardware finish for all aluminum door hardware components to the doors.

2.6 KEY CABINET AND CONTROL SYSTEM
2.6.1 BHMA A156.5, Type required to yield a capacity (number of hooks) 50 percent greater than the number of key changes used for door locks.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
3.1.1 Install hardware in accordance with manufacturers' printed installation instructions. Fasten hardware to wood surfaces with full-threaded wood screws or sheet metal screws. Provide machine screws set in expansion shields for fastening hardware to solid concrete and masonry surfaces. Provide toggle bolts where required for fastening to hollow core construction. Provide through bolts where necessary for satisfactory installation.
3.1.1.1 Weather Stripping Installation
a. Handle and install weather stripping to prevent damage. Provide full contact, weather-tight seals. Operate doors without binding.
(1) Stop-Applied Weather Stripping
(a) Fasten in place with color-matched sheet metal screws not more than 9 inch on center after doors and frames have been finish painted.
(2) Interlocking Type Weather Stripping
(a) Provide interlocking, self-adjusting type on heads and jambs and flexible hook type at sills. Nail weather stripping to door one inch on center and to heads and jambs at 4 inch on center
(3) Spring Tension Type Weather Stripping
(a) Provide spring tension type on heads and jambs. Provide bronze nails with bronze, stainless steel nails with stainless steel. Space nails not more than 1-1/2 inch on center.
3.1.1.2 Lightproofing and Soundproofing Installation
a. Install as specified for stop-applied weather stripping.
3.1.1.3 Threshold Installation
a. Extend thresholds the full width of the opening and notch end for jamb stops. Set thresholds in a full bed of sealant and anchor to floor with cadmium-plated, countersunk, steel screws in expansion sleeves.
3.2 FIRE DOORS AND EXIT DOORS
3.2.1 Install hardware in accordance with NFPA 80 for fire doors, NFPA 101 for exit doors.
3.3 HARDWARE LOCATIONS
3.3.1 SDI/DOOR A250.8, unless indicated or specified otherwise.

3.3.1.1 Kick and Armor Plates: Push side of single-acting doors. Both sides of double-acting doors.
3.3.1.2 Mop Plates: Bottom flush with bottom of door.
3.4 KEY CABINET AND CONTROL SYSTEM
3.4.1 Locate where directed. Tag one set of file keys and one set of duplicate keys. Place other keys in appropriately marked envelopes, or tag each key. Furnish complete instructions for setup and use of key control system. On tags and envelopes, indicate door and room numbers or master or grand master key.
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
3.5.1 After installation, protect hardware from paint, stains, blemishes, and other damage until acceptance of work. Submit notice of testing 15 days before scheduled, so that testing can be witnessed by the Contracting Officer. Adjust hinges, locks, latches, bolts, holders, closers, and other items to operate properly. Demonstrate that permanent keys operate respective locks, and give keys to the Contracting Officer. Correct, repair, and finish, as directed, errors in cutting and fitting and damage to adjoining work.
3.6 HARDWARE SETS
3.6.1 Provide hardware for aluminum doors under this section. Deliver Hardware templates and hardware, except field-applied hardware to the aluminum door and frame manufacturer for use in fabricating the doors and frames.

1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
1.3.1 Where applicable or required by the Statement of Work (SOW), exterior glazing, window framing, connections, and supporting structural elements shall comply with Standards 10 of the UFC 4-010-01, DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings.
1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
1.4.1 Glazing systems shall be fabricated and installed watertight and airtight to withstand thermal movement and wind loading without glass breakage, gasket failure, deterioration of glazing accessories, and defects in the work. Glazed panels shall comply with the safety standards, as indicated in accordance with ANSI Z97.1. Glazed panels shall comply with indicated wind/snow loading in accordance with ASTM E 1300.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
1.5.1 Deliver products to the site in unopened containers, labeled plainly with manufacturers' names and brands. Store glass and setting materials in safe, enclosed dry locations and do not unpack until needed for installation. Handle and install materials in a manner that will protect them from damage.
1.6 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1.6.1 Do not start glazing work until the outdoor temperature is above 40 degrees F and rising, unless procedures recommended by the glass manufacturer and approved by the Contracting Officer are

1.7 SUSTAINABLE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
1.7.1 Local/Regional Materials
1.7.1.1 Use materials or products extracted, harvested, or recovered, as well as manufactured, within a 500 mile radius from the project site, if available from a minimum of three sources.
1.8 WARRANTY
1.8.1 Warranty for Insulating Glass Units
1.8.1.1 Warranty insulating glass units against development of material obstruction to vision (such as dust, fogging, or film formation on the inner glass surfaces) caused by failure of the hermetic seal, other than through glass breakage, for a 10-year period following acceptance of the work.
Provide new units for any units failing to comply with terms of this warranty within 45 working days after receipt of notice from the Government. For control tower units, the warranty period shall be 10 years; warranty shall be signed by the manufacturer.
1.8.2 Warranty for Polycarbonate Sheet
1.8.2.1 For a 5-year period following acceptance of the work:
a. Warranty Type I, Class A (UV stabilized) sheets against breakage;
b. Warranty Type III (coated, mar-resistant) sheets against breakage and against coating delamination;
c. Warranty Type IV (coated sheet) against breakage and against yellowing;
d. Warranty extruded polycarbonate profile sheet against breakage.
1.8.2.2 For a 10-year period following acceptance of the work, warranty Type IV against yellowing and loss of light transmission.
1.8.3 Monolithic Reflective Glass
1.8.3.1 Manufacturer shall warrant the monolithic reflective glass to be free of peeling or deteriorating of coating for a period of 10 years after Date of Substantial Completion. Warranty shall be signed by manufacturer.
1.8.4 Monolithic Opacified Spandrel
1.8.4.1 Manufacturer shall warrant the opacifier film on the spandrel to be free of peeling for a period of five years after Date of Substantial Completion. Warranty shall be signed by manufacturer.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 GLASS
2.1.1 ASTM C 1036, unless specified otherwise. In doors and sidelights, provide safety glazing material conforming to 16 CFR 1201.
2.1.1.1 Clear Glass
a. For interior glazing (i.e., pass and observation windows), 1/4 inch thick glass should be used.
b. Type I, Class 1 (clear), Quality q4 (A). Provide for glazing openings not indicated or specified otherwise. Use double-strength sheet glass or 1/8 inch float glass for openings up to and including 15 square feet, 3/16 inch for glazing openings over 15 square feet but not over 30 square feet, and 1/4 inch for glazing openings over 30 square feet but not over 45 square feet.
2.1.1.2 Annealed Glass
a. Annealed glass shall be Type I transparent flat type, Class 1 - clear or tinted, Quality q3 -glazing select, light transmittance, and shading coefficient as indicated or as required by the C.O., conforming to ASTM C 1036. Color shall be as indicated on the drawings or as selected.
2.1.1.3 Heat-Absorbing Glass
a. Type I, Class 2 (heat absorbing and light reducing), Quality q3 (select), thickness, color, light transmittance, and shading coefficient, as indicated or as required by the C.O., conforming to ASTM C 1036. 1/4 inch thickness.
2.1.1.4 Wired Glass
a. Glass for fire-rated windows shall be UL listed and shall be rated as indicated when tested in accordance with ASTM E 2010. Wired glass shall be Type II flat type, Quality q8 - glazing, Form 1 - wired and polished both sides, with light transmittance, and shading coefficient, as indicated or as required by the C.O., conforming to ASTM C 1036. Wire mesh shall be polished stainless steel Mesh 1 - diamond. Wired glass for fire-rated windows shall bear an identifying UL label or the label of a nationally recognized testing agency, and shall be tested in accordance with NFPA 257. Wired glass for fire-rated doors shall be tested as part of a door assembly in accordance with NFPA 252.
2.1.1.5 Patterned Glass
a. Type II, Class 1 (translucent), Form 3 (patterned), Quality q7 (decorative), Finish f1 (patterned one side) or f2 (patterned two sides). Pattern, light transmittance, and shading coefficient as indicated or as required by the C.O. Thickness as indicated.
2.1.1.6 Laminated Glass
a. ASTM C 1172, Kind LA fabricated from two nominal 1/8 inch pieces of Type I, Class 1, Quality q3, flat annealed transparent glass conforming to ASTM C 1036. Flat glass shall be laminated together with a minimum of 0.030 inch thick, clear polyvinyl butyral interlayer or alternatives such as resin laminates, conforming to requirements of 16 CFR 1201 and ASTM C 1172. The total thickness shall be nominally 1/4 inch. Color shall be as indicated.

2.1.1.8 Mirrors
a. Glass Mirrors
(1) Glass for mirrors shall be Type I transparent flat type, Class 1-clear, Glazing Quality q1 1/4 inch thick conforming to ASTM C 1036. Glass color shall be as indicated. Glass shall be coated on one surface with silver coating, copper protective coating, and mirror backing paint. Silver coating shall be highly adhesive pure silver coating of a thickness which shall provide reflectivity of 83 percent or more of incident light when viewed through 1/4 inch thick glass, and shall be free of pinholes or other defects. Copper protective coating shall be pure bright reflective copper, homogeneous without sludge, pinholes or other defects, and shall be of proper thickness to prevent "adhesion pull" by mirror backing paint. Mirror backing paint shall consist of two coats of special scratch and abrasion-resistant paint, and shall be baked in uniform thickness to provide a protection for silver and copper coatings which will permit normal cutting and edge fabrication.
2.1.1.9 One-Way Vision Glass (Transparent Mirrors)
a. Type I, Class 1, Quality q1, 1/4 inch thick, coated on one face with a hard, adherent film of chromium or other approved coating of equal durability. Glass shall transmit not less than 5 percent or more than 11 percent of total incident visible light and shall reflect from the front surface of the coating not less than 45 percent of the total incident visible light.
2.1.1.10 Tempered Glass
a. ASTM C 1048, Kind FT (fully tempered), Condition A (uncoated), Type I, Class 1 (transparent) or 2 (tinted heat absorbing), Quality q3. Thickness, light transmittance, and shading coefficient as indicated or as required by the C.O., conforming to ASTM C 1048 and GANA Standards Manual. Color shall be as indicated. Provide wherever safety glazing material is indicated or specified.
2.1.1.11 Heat-Strengthened Glass
a. ASTM C 1048, Kind HS (heat strengthened), Condition A (uncoated), Type I, Class 1 (clear) or 2 (tinted heat absorbing), Quality q3.
2.1.1.12 Spandrel Glass
a. Ceramic-Opacified Spandrel Glass
(1) Ceramic-opacified spandrel glass shall be Kind HS heat-strengthened transparent flat type, Condition B, coated with a colored ceramic material on No. 2 surface, Quality q3 - glazing select, inch thick, conforming to ASTM C 1048. Color shall be as indicated.
b. Film-Opacified Spandrel Glass
(1) Film-opacified spandrel glass shall be Kind HS heat-strengthened transparent flat type, Quality q3 - glazing select, Condition C glass with a polyester or polyethylene film 2 mils to 5 mils thick attached to No. 2 surface of a sputtered solar-reflective film, conforming to ASTM C 1048. Film opacification shall be compatible to and specifically developed for application to solar reflective films. Color shall be as specified.

c. Spandrel Glass With Adhered Backing
(1) ASTM C 1048, Kind HS or FT, Condition B (ceramic coated), Type I, Quality q5, inch thick and shall pass the fallout resistance test specified in ASTM C 1048.
2.1.1.13 Fire/Safety Rated Glass
a. Fire/safety rated glass shall be laminated Type I transparent flat type, Class 1-clear. Glass shall have the indicated rating when tested in accordance with ASTM E 119. Glass shall be permanently labeled with appropriate markings.
2.1.1.14 Tinted (Light-Reducing) Glass
a. Tinted (light-reducing) glass shall be Type I transparent flat type, Class 3-tinted, Quality q3 -glazing select, .50 percent light transmittance, .35 percent shading coefficient, as indicated or as required by the C.O., conforming to ASTM C 1036. Color shall be as indicated.
2.2 INSULATING GLASS UNITS
2.2.1 Two panes of glass separated by a dehydrated, 1/2 inch airspace, and hermetically sealed. Glazed systems (including frames) shall be Energy Star labeled products as appropriate to climate zone and as applicable to window type, with a whole-window Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) maximum of .40 determined according to NFRC 200 procedures. Glazed panels and curtain walls shall have a U-factor maximum of .35 Btu per square foot x hr x degree F in accordance with NFRC 100. Glazing shall meet or exceed a luminous efficacy of 1.0. Glazed panels shall be rated for not less than 30 Sound Transmission Class (STC) when tested for laboratory sound transmission loss according to ASTM E 90 and determined by ASTM E 413. Dimensional tolerances shall be as specified in IGMA TR-1200. The units shall meet CBA Grade requirement when tested in accordance with ASTM E 773 and ASTM E 774, Class A. Spacer shall be black, roll-formed, with bent or tightly welded or keyed and sealed joints to completely seal the spacer periphery and eliminate moisture and hydrocarbon vapor transmission into airspace through the corners. Primary seal shall be compressed polyisobutylene and the secondary seal shall be a specially formulated silicone.
2.2.1.1 Buildings
a. The inner light shall be ASTM C 1172, clear annealed flat glass Type I, Class I, Quality q3, ASTM C 1036, Type I, Class 1, Quality q4, or ASTM C 1048, Grade B (fully tempered), as indicated or as required by the C.O., Style I (uncoated), Type I, Class 1 (transparent), Quality q4, thickness as indicated. The outer light shall be ASTM C 1036, Type I, Class 1 (transparent), 2 (tinted heat absorbing), 2 (solar-reflective), Quality q4, ASTM C 1048, Grade B (fully tempered), Style I (uncoated), Type I, Class 1 (clear) or 2 (tinted heat absorbing), Quality q4, thickness as indicated.
2.2.1.2 Control Towers
a. Control tower glass units shall be of sizes required to properly fit aluminum frames. Tolerances and clearances for units shall be designed to prevent the transfer of stress in aluminum frames to the glass. Resilient setting blocks, spacer strips, clips, bolts, washers, angles, glazing sealants, and resilient channels or cemented-on-materials shall be of the type recommended in the glass manufacturer's approved written instructions. Edges and corners of units shall not be ground, nipped, cut, or fitted after leaving the factory.

(a) Insulating glass units for air traffic control towers shall meet the wind load design requirement indicated as determined in accordance with ASCE 7. Insulating glass shall be Class A preassembled units of dual-seal construction consisting of two lites of glass separated by a dark bronze aluminum, steel, or stainless steel, spacer with desiccant and dehydrated space conforming to ASTM E 773 and ASTM E 774. Spacer shall be roll-formed, with bent or tightly welded or keyed and sealed joints, to completely seal the spacer periphery to eliminate moisture and hydrocarbon vapor transmission into airspace through corners. Primary seal shall be compressed polyisobutylene.
Secondary seal shall be silicone. Insulating glass units shall be fabricated for use at an elevation above mean sea level and height above grade required for the conditions.
Within bottom 1/3 of one of the vertical edges of each unit, the manufacturer shall install an open 12 inch long capillary/breather tube for pressure equalization. The insulating glass units shall be free of parallax or optical distortions. The manufacturer's identifying label shall be permanently affixed to both exterior surfaces of the glass units. The insulating glass units shall be a total thickness of 1 inch consisting of two 1/4 inch thick panels and air space, or a total thickness of 1-1/4 inch consisting of two 3/8 inch thick panels and air space, or a total thickness of 1-1/2 inch consisting of two 1/2 inch thick panels and an air space, as required to meet the wind loads indicated.
Glass type shall be as follows.
(2) Control Tower Heat-Absorbing Insulating Glass
(a) Heat-absorbing insulating glass shall consist of two glass panels separated by an air space and shall conform to ASTM C 1036, Type I, transparent flat glass, Style A, Quality q3 - glazing select. Interior glass shall be Class 1-clear and exterior glass shall be Class 2-tinted green. Glass performance shall be minimum Visible Transmittance of
70.8 percent for each panel and R-Value of 1.85 for the unit.
(3) Control Tower Clear Insulating Glass
(a) Clear insulating glass shall consist of two float glass panels separated by an air space and shall conform to ASTM C 1036, Type I transparent flat glass, Quality q3-glazing select. Interior glass and exterior glass shall be Class 1-clear. Glass performance shall be minimum Visible Transmittance of 87.3 percent for each panel and R-Value of 1.85 for each unit.
2.2.1.3 Low Emissivity Insulating Glass
a. Interior and exterior glass panes for Low-E insulating units shall be Type I annealed flat glass, Class 1-clear or 2-tinted with anti-reflective low-emissivity coating on No. 2 surface (inside surface of exterior pane), Quality q3 - glazing select, conforming to ASTM C 1036. Glass performance shall be U-Value/Winter Nighttime .35, shading coefficient .40. Color shall be as indicated on the drawings or as selected.
2.3 PLASTIC GLAZING
2.3.1 Plastic glazing shall include a layer of aerogel between panels.
2.3.1.1 Acrylic Sheet
a. ASTM D 4802, Type I, regular or Type II, heat resistant, clear and smooth on both sides, ultraviolet stabilized, scratch resistant, 0.236 in. thick.
2.3.1.2 Polycarbonate Sheet

a. ANSI Z97.1, Clear and smooth both sides, mar-resistant, high abrasion resistant, ultraviolet stabilized, and listed in UL MEAPD as burglar resisting. Mar-resistant sheet shall have a change in haze of between 5 and 8 percent under silica carbide test, 1600 grams, ASTM D 673.
2.3.1.3 Extruded Polycarbonate Profiled Sheet
a. Provide double triple walled, surface treated for improved UV resistance, offering thermal efficiency and impact strength.
2.3.1.4 Bullet-Resistant Plastic Sheet
a. Cast acrylic sheet or mar-resistant polycarbonate sheet laminated with a special interlayer, and listed in UL 752 as bullet resisting, Class I, II, or III, as indicated.
2.4 SETTING AND SEALING MATERIALS
2.4.1 Provide as specified in the GANA Glazing Manual, IGMA TM-3000, IGMA TB-3001, and manufacturer's recommendations, unless specified otherwise herein. Do not use metal sash putty, nonskinning compounds, nonresilient preformed sealers, or impregnated preformed gaskets.
Materials exposed to view and unpainted shall be gray or neutral color.
2.4.1.1 Putty and Glazing Compound
a. Glazing compound shall conform to ASTM C 669 for face-glazing metal sash. Putty shall be linseed oil type conforming to CID A-A-378for face-glazing primed wood sash. Putty and glazing compounds shall not be used with insulating glass or laminated glass.
2.4.1.2 Glazing Compound
a. ASTM C 669. Use for face glazing metal sash. Do not use with insulating glass units or laminated glass.
2.4.1.3 Sealants
a. Provide elastomeric and structural sealants.
(1) Elastomeric Sealant
(a) ASTM C 920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 12.5, Use G. Use for channel or stop glazing wood and metal sash. Sealant shall be chemically compatible with setting blocks, edge blocks, and sealing tapes, and with plastic sheet. Color of sealant shall be white.
(2) Structural Sealant
(a) ASTM C 1184, Type S.
2.4.1.4 Joint Backer
a. Joint backer shall have a diameter size at least 25 percent larger than joint width; type and material as recommended in writing by glass and sealant manufacturer.
2.4.1.5 Preformed Channels
a. Neoprene, vinyl, or rubber, as recommended by the glass manufacturer for the particular condition. Channels for bullet-resistant glass shall be synthetic rubber, ASTM C 864, not less than 1/4 inch thick and sufficiently resilient to accommodate expansion and contraction while

Attachment 1 maintaining a vaportight seal between glass and frame. Channels shall be chemically compatible with plastic sheet.
2.4.1.6 Sealing Tapes
a. Preformed, semisolid, PVC-based material of proper size and compressibility for the particular condition, complying with ASTM D 2287. Use only where glazing rabbet is designed for tape and tape is recommended by the glass or sealant manufacturer. Provide spacer shims for use with compressible tapes. Tapes shall be chemically compatible with the product being set.
2.4.1.7 Setting Blocks and Edge Blocks
a. Closed-cell neoprene setting blocks shall be dense extruded type conforming to ASTM C 509 and ASTM D 395, Method B, Shore A durometer between 70 and 90. Edge blocking shall be Shore A durometer of 50 (+ or - 5). Silicone setting blocks shall be required when blocks are in contact with silicone sealant. Profiles, lengths and locations shall be as required and recommended in writing by glass manufacturer. Block color shall be black.
2.4.1.8 Glazing Gaskets
a. Glazing gaskets shall be extruded with continuous integral locking projection designed to engage into metal glass holding members to provide a watertight seal during dynamic loading, building movements and thermal movements. Glazing gaskets for a single glazed opening shall be continuous one-piece units with factory-fabricated injection-molded corners free of flashing and burrs. Glazing gaskets shall be in lengths or units recommended by manufacturer to ensure against pull-back at corners. Glazing gasket profiles shall be as indicated on drawings.
(1) Fixed Glazing Gaskets
(a) Fixed glazing gaskets shall be closed-cell (sponge) smooth extruded compression gaskets of cured elastomeric virgin neoprene compounds conforming to ASTM C 509, Type 2, Option 1.
(2) Wedge Glazing Gaskets
(a) Wedge glazing gaskets shall be high-quality extrusions of cured elastomeric virgin neoprene compounds, ozone resistant, conforming to ASTM C 864, Option 1, Shore A durometer between 65 and 75.
(3) Aluminum Framing Glazing Gaskets
(a) Glazing gaskets for aluminum framing shall be permanent, elastic, non-shrinking, non-migrating, watertight and weathertight.
2.4.1.9 Accessories
a. Provide as required for a complete installation, including glazing points, clips, shims, angles, beads, and spacer strips. Provide noncorroding metal accessories. Provide primer-sealers and cleaners as recommended by the glass and sealant manufacturers.
2.5 MIRROR ACCESSORIES
2.5.1 Mastic
2.5.1.1 Mastic for setting mirrors shall be a polymer type mirror mastic resistant to water, shock, cracking, vibration and thermal expansion. Mastic shall be compatible with mirror backing

2.5.2 Mirror Frames
2.5.2.1 Mirrors shall be provided with mirror frames (J-mold channels) fabricated of one-piece roll-formed Type 304 stainless steel with No. 4 brushed satin finish and concealed fasteners which will keep mirrors snug to wall. Frames shall be 1-1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 inch continuous at top and bottom of mirrors. Concealed fasteners of type to suit wall construction material shall be provided with mirror frames.

3.1.1 Preparation, unless otherwise specified or approved, shall conform to applicable recommendations in the GANA Glazing Manual, GANA Sealant Manual, IGMA TB-3001, IGMA TM-3000, and manufacturer's recommendations. Determine the sizes to provide the required edge clearances by measuring the actual opening to receive the glass. Grind smooth in the shop glass edges that will be exposed in finish work. Leave labels in place until the installation is approved, except remove applied labels on heat-absorbing glass and on insulating glass units as soon as glass is installed. Securely fix movable items or keep in a closed and locked position until glazing compound has thoroughly set.
3.2 GLASS SETTING
3.2.1 Shop glaze or field glaze items to be glazed using glass of the quality and thickness specified or indicated. Glazing, unless otherwise specified or approved, shall conform to applicable recommendations in the GANA Glazing Manual, GANA Sealant Manual, IGMA TB-3001, IGMA TM-3000, and manufacturer's recommendations. Aluminum windows, wood doors, and wood windows may be glazed in conformance with one of the glazing methods described in the standards under which they are produced, except that face puttying with no bedding will not be permitted.
