About this file
This is Section 08 71 00 (Door Hardware) of the specification documents for the Fort Bliss National Cemetery Gravesite Expansion project (VA Project 886CM3026) in El Paso, Texas, issued as Addendum 1 to the bid documents.
The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for door hardware installation and operation, including hinges, continuous hinges, door closers, door stops, floor door holders, locks and latches, keys, kick plates, thresholds, wire guards, and miscellaneous hardware. All hardware must comply with ABAAS accessibility standards and relevant ANSI/BHMA standards. Mortise locksets must be Series 1000 minimum Grade 2 with stainless steel lever handles; cylindrical locksets must be Series 4000 Grade I. All cylinders require interchangeable removable cores keyed to the Schlage "C" keyway master key system. Door closers must conform to ANSI A156.4 Grade 1, be non-handed with full metal covers, and have surpassed 15 million cycles. Continuous hinges must comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.26 Grade 1-600 with stainless steel base metal. Warranties extend two years for most items, five years for locks and panic hardware, and ten years for door closers and continuous hinges. The specification includes detailed hardware sets (HW-1, HW-SH-1 through HW-SH-12, HW-G1, HW-OH-1) specifying components for individual doors and gates with manufacturer abbreviations (McKinney, ASSA ABLOY ACCENTRA, Rockwood, Schlage, Securitron, Best, and others). Multiple doors require electrified fail-secure locks with electric power transfers, position switches, and credential readers coordinated through Division 28 contractor. Hardware must be delivered in original containers with manufacturer identification, with samples required for non-previously-approved items. A preinstallation meeting is required at least 30 days before hardware installation, and final inspection requires verification of proper operation, maintenance procedures, and identification of any deteriorated items.
