About this file
This is Section 07 22 00 (Roof and Deck Insulation) of the specifications for a roof replacement project at Columbus VAMC Building 1A, issued as Addendum #01 on April 27, 2026, under contract #757-21-101.
The section specifies requirements for roof and deck insulation, vapor retarders, and cover boards on both existing concrete and metal deck substrates. The insulation thermal performance requirement is RSI-57 (R-33) minimum for new systems, with rehabilitation areas matching existing conditions. Polyisocyanurate board insulation per ASTM C1289 (Type II, Class 1, Grade 2) with glass fiber reinforced cellulosic felt facers is required, with rigid foam containing minimum 9 percent recycled content. The vapor retarder system consists of ASTM D 6163 Grade S, Type III glass-fiber-reinforced, SBS-modified asphalt sheet applied with cold-applied adhesive containing 24% bio-based content and ultra-low VOC formulation. Cover board shall be glass-mat, water-resistant gypsum roof board per ASTM C1177/C1177M at 6 mm thick, factory primed. Insulation surface burning characteristics must comply with ASTM E84, with flame spread rating of 75 maximum and smoke developed rating of 150 maximum. Installation requires adhered insulation using bead-applied or full-spread urethane adhesives with staggered joints minimum 150 mm between layers, cant strips at vertical junctures, and cover boards offset minimum 150 mm from insulation joints. All products must comply with sustainable construction requirements including VOC limits per Section 01 81 13 and support for bio-based and recycled content materials. The installer must be the same as the Division 07 roofing section installer, and all work must comply with NRCA Manual-15 recommendations.
