# Questions Response 1 Control Room 1C137D observation window- No glass manufacturer makes a glass that is 1/2" lead that the specs call out. To achieve this, glass would need to be layered which would cause distortion.
The required lead shielding for control room 1C137D and in particular the observation window, the documents are correct.
3/4" lead shielding is required for the observation window. This can be achieved by layering the lead glass so it is equal to the required 3/4" lead shielding. We advise bidders to work with a radiation shielding company who has dealt with this in the past, as the thickness and requirements are not a common occurence. The Nuclear Medicine department is aware of the distortion and yellowish tint that will occur as you layer the lead glass panes.
2 There is lead glass called out for exterior windows which the glass company will not warrant lead glass used in an exterior application.
The exterior windows in the Toilet Rooms 1C137J and 1C137K, DO NOT have to be lead shielded. Those exterior windows can be the same insulated window system as the ones in the Equipment Room 1C137H. Even though the windows are not lead shielded, the walls around the Toilet Rooms will still require the lead shielding.
