About this file
This document contains a request for information (RFI) from Valiant Construction regarding the solicitation for the renovation of Building 34 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee.
Valiant Construction submitted five questions to the contracting officer seeking clarification on the scope of work. The questions pertained to existing modular units and floor damage that were not indicated for removal or repair in the solicitation documents, areas of water damage that were not specified as being included, and whether exterior tuckpointing and refinishing of existing walls were required. The contracting officer provided responses confirming that the modular units should be removed, no work was required for the terrazzo flooring or vaulted ceilings, brick tuckpointing was only intended for building penetrations, and existing walls did not need to be refinished where walls were removed.

REPLY NEEDED BY:
INFORMATION NEEDED:
71. In the West Part of Area B Room 110, There is existing Modular units containing MEP hookups, that seem partially disassembled; however they are not shown on the bidding documents to be removed. Can the VA confirm if they intend for the General Contractor to have these removed?
72. In Room 110 there is existing Floor Damage to the Terrazzo floor. Since there is no new Flooring scopes in the bidding documents, does the VA intend for the General Contractor to have this area repaired?
73. In Room 110, the existing vaulted wood ceiling shows several spots of water damage. Does the VA intend for the
General Contractor have this repaired in the base bid, or determine repairs needed in the required roofing survey?
73. Sheet 34-AD-102, North West Corner of Part A, shows a Keynote 17 Slate Tile repair to be conducted. During the site visit it was shown that the corner rafter at this location is significantly water damaged. Does the VA intend for the General Contractor to repair this in the base bid?
74. The Site Visit showed several areas where the exterior building could use tuck pointing. The Drawings doesn't indicate any areas of repair to be included in this bid, however; Specification section 04 01 00 under 1.1 says the section includes repointing and replacing of existing damaged areas. Can the VA confirm that this is only for any existing penetrations that will no longer be needed, rather than surveying the entire exterior surface of the building?
75. Specification Section 09 06 00, Page 11 Section 3.3 states, "Match adjoining or existing similar surface colors, textures or patterns where disturbed or damaged by alterations or new work when not scheduled." Since Rooms
108,140,144 and 147 are the ones listed on the Finish Schedule, can the VA confirm that once walls are removed as shown on bidding documents, we don't refinish the existing walls to match? Example room would be Room 104.
