End of Action Report
Report Date: 10 July 2019
Range/Area: Walker Lake Range
Range Schedule: 2nd Qtr CY-19
During the 2nd Quarter sweep operations at Walker Lake Range, the Range Clearance
Team swept the range on ATVs.
Sweeps began in the North Magazine area at the gate near the 107 compound. Sweeps were conducted nine consecutive weeks in the months of April, May and June on the following dates. 1– 4 April, 15–18 April, 22–25 April, 29–30 April, 1–2 May, 6–9 May, 13–16 May, 20–23 May, 27–30 May, and 3–6 June.
Sweeps were performed by three team members on ATVs sweeping both East-West transects, and North-South transects, spaced ten yards apart IAW SOP W65XME-0000-
K-013, until the team completed the Walker Lake Range. A copy of SOP W65XME-
0000-K-013 was provided with 4th Quarter CY-18 Range Clearance reports.
The Clearance Team located 24 items during this Quarter. Each item was physically marked, photographed, and the location marked by GPS coordinate. After initial investigation, items safe to move were taken to a shot consolidation point (CON on maps) and disposed of together in one shot. Items not safe to move were marked in the same way, not moved, and Blown in Place (BIP). With respect to the Q2CY19 Walker
Lake Range sweep, 22 items were safe to move (items 001-022) and two were BIP (items
023 and 024). All items were detonated on 27 June, 2019.
After disposal by detonation, remaining debris was inspected, collected, and transferred to the secure holding area in 107 compound for further processing.
Only UXO Tech III personnel retain the keys to the container locks, and only UXO Tech
III personnel are authorized to access containers to add or remove items. Munitions debris, or fragmentation, may be placed into the containers daily. However, items requiring disposal by detonation will only be placed into the containers on a quarterly basis, following the completion of quarterly disposal and detonation operations.
Once the containers in the 107 compound are full, the items are further refined by cutting, shredding or shearing at the Range Scrap recycling facility and then processed through the hot gas decontamination facility to remove any remaining residue. Finally, items are transferred to the Property Reutilization Office (PRO) to be sold as scrap and recycled.
All items found during the Q2CY19 Walker Lake range sweep are listed in the following table.
