About this file
This is a policy notification letter from Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital regarding changes to the facility's smoking and tobacco use policy. Effective October 1, 2019, smoking and all tobacco product use will be prohibited on the entire VA campus for all individuals, including patients, visitors, contractors, volunteers, vendors, and employees. The policy encompasses cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, and electronic smoking devices such as vape pens, e-cigarettes, and e-cigars. Individuals who fail to comply with the policy may receive a Federal citation.
The letter advises visitors and staff to leave tobacco products and devices at home and notes that certain hospital areas may require storage of such items due to fire safety concerns related to oxygen and other gases used on-site. The hospital offers tobacco cessation services to veterans seeking assistance with quitting tobacco use, available through contact with their Primary Care Team. The notification is signed by Steven E. Braverman, M.D., Hospital Director, and is addressed from the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital located at 5000 S. 5th Avenue, Hines, Illinois 60141.
