UNSPSC 72151000: Boiler and furnace construction and maintenance services

The installation and main encasement of boiler and furnace systems and components

UNSPSC 72151000 Boiler and furnace construction and maintenance services is a Class code that encompasses removal, replacement, and maintenance of boiler and hot water heating systems at public facilities including schools, corrections centers, universities, and municipal buildings. State and local governments are actively procuring boiler replacement work—driven by aging infrastructure at correctional facilities, schools, and public utilities—as well as incidental repairs and preventive maintenance contracts at veterans homes, state hospitals, and institutional campuses. The work ranges from full boiler system removal and replacement with modern equipment to vent installation, steam distribution system renovations, and routine maintenance on multiple-boiler plants with specialized certification and prevailing wage compliance.

Recent solicitations span school districts, county and municipal facilities, state departments of veterans affairs, universities, and regional public authorities across multiple states. Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District in Massachusetts issued IFB bids due August 3, 2026 for single-boiler replacement at Minnechaug Regional High School (estimated cost $125,000); Eastern Connecticut State University requested ITB 2027-200 with bids due August 5, 2026 for chiller and rooftop system replacement; the California Department of Veterans Affairs issued multiple boiler maintenance and replacement solicitations including IFB 26VS0002 (bids due June 19, 2026) for maintenance of three Raypac boilers at the Ventura Veterans Home and solicitation 25WS0049 for West Los Angeles hot water boiler replacement with bids due May 21, 2026; the Texas Facilities Commission solicited CMR services for Central Utility Plant renovation at Texas School for the Deaf (qualifications due March 17, 2026, estimated $24.475 million) and for TSBVI generator and HVAC replacement (proposals due May 27, 2026, estimated $7 million); and the Massachusetts Military Division issued ITB 240795 for boiler vent installation at Camp Edwards (bids due May 28, 2026) and ITB 241245 for boiler replacement at Dining Facility Twining Hall (bids due May 28, 2026). Geography includes California, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, and Georgia, with concentrated recent activity among state veterans-affairs departments, military facilities, and regional school districts. Prevailing wage requirements and DVBE or SBE participation goals are standard across most recent solicitations; bonding and comprehensive insurance (GL, workers' compensation, auto liability) are uniformly required.
