2.1.3 Grout

Non-shrink, hydraulic cement compound with 8,000 pounds per square inch compressive strength.

2.2 MOBILE STORAGE SYSTEM

2.2.1 Type

Manually operated, high density, mobile storage system consisting of track assembly and wheeled carriages which provide platforms for storage units.

2.2.2 Track

The track shall be constructed of 5/8 inch square, 1045 cold rolled steel, rail bar stock positioned in a 6063-T5 aluminum alloy track. Rails shall be machined on all sides.

a. Each track shall have a minimum base width of 3-3/4".

b. Leveling screws shall be provided to facilitate proper leveling of track and to ensure smooth operation of the system.

c. Track shall be secured to the floor with Hilti type anchors and grouted in place.

d. Track sections shall be designed with tongue and groove overlap connections between each rail joint. This design shall provide horizontal and vertical continuity for a smooth rail surface providing ease of carriage operation.

e. The engineered space between the rail and aluminum housing shall be filled with a black neoprene material to provide a flush floor appearance and prevent debris from collecting thus affecting carriage movement.

f. Anti-tip and recessed track options shall be provided.

2.2.3 Carriages

Carriages are of 12-gauge welded steel construction, designed and manufactured to support 1000 lbs. per linear carriage foot. All carriages are painted and finished with powder coat paint in textured finishes.

a. Fixed carriages shall be of the same construction and height as

SECTION 10 56 26 Page 3 movable carriages and shall be anchored to the floor, in such a manner, as to provide for a complete, homogeneous system.

b. Carriage splices shall be of a bolted (type) designed to maintain proper unit alignment.

c. Carriage cross members shall be 12 gauge welded C-shaped steel channels.

d. Carriage construction shall allow shelving to be securely anchored to the carriages.

2.2.4 Wheels

All wheels shall be a minimum of 5 inches in diameter, precision ground, balanced and constructed from solid steel for a smooth operation.

a. A minimum of four guide wheels shall be provided per movable carriage. Guide wheels shall be machined with flanges on both sides of the wheel.

b. Each drive wheel shall be fitted with two permanently sealed and shielded bearings housed in a self-aligning flanged pillow block.

2.2.5 Drive System

All mobile carriages shall be fitted with full-length drive shafts.

a. All drive shafts shall be a minimum of 1 inch solid stress proof steel and shall connect all wheels on drive side of carriage with 1/4 x 2 inch square keys and couplings. All axles shall be solid steel and support the full load of the carriage.

b. The mechanical assist handle shall be of a three spoke ergonomic design. The transfer of power from the handle to the drive shaft shall be chain driven.

c. All mechanical assist systems shall be moved by means of a chain and sprocket reduction drive system.

d. All chains and sprockets shall be concealed for safety. The gearing mechanism shall be easily accessible and able to accept different sprockets depending on weight changes.

2.2.6 Drive Effort

Gear ratio shall be determined by carriage length and weight; factory shall calculate correct drive effort for each system considering length, weight loads and number of carriages to be moved.

a. There shall be no "play" in the drive handle at any time and the carriage shall stop without drifting when operation of the handle is terminated on all leveled systems.

2.2.7 End Panels

All end panels shall be full height and depth of the shelving ends.

a. High-pressure laminate covered end panels shall be 1-1/2 inch thick.

SECTION 10 56 26 Page 4

b. Steel chain covers or end panels (20 gauge) shall be supplied as specified. The chain cover shall cover only the exposed chain drive mechanism while the steel end panel will be the full height and width of the upright.

2.2.8 Safety Features

All carriages shall be equipped with a push/pull safety handle parking lock as a standard feature. The lock, when engaged, shall utilize a (reinforced) dual pin insertion concept that will expose a red indicator to show the carriage is in the lock down mode.

a. Carriage end stops shall be provided for systems without stationary units.

b. A "safety space" shall be provided between end panels by the use of 3/4 inch carriage bumpers; this provides protection for the fingers of those using the system and provides a positive stop for all carriages.
