About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for overhauling Watertight Hatch 3-101-1 and replacing the lifeline/guardline assembly on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The detailed technical instruction covers a comprehensive replacement and inspection process for a specific hatch and its associated safety components, including specific requirements for removing existing hardware, fabricating and testing new components, and reinstalling the hatch.
The work involves multiple precise steps, including removing and cleaning existing hatch components, fabricating new portable hatch guard stanchions, lifeline and guardline assemblies, and conducting rigorous load and visual testing on the new components. Key specifications include using specific materials like CRES 316L stainless steel, Kevlar rope, and polyester synthetic rope, with load testing requirements of 3,000 pounds for lifeline assemblies and 1,100 pounds for guardline assemblies. The work is scheduled to occur between January 12, 2026, and May 15, 2027, at various locations on the ship, including sponson, third deck weather, storerooms, and crew spaces.
