About this file
The document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Oily Waste Holding Tank (9-90-0-F) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), located in the Engine Room. The tank has a capacity of 15,748 gallons and requires comprehensive maintenance, including commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection for structural integrity, and repair of deteriorated components such as welds, plates, and stiffeners. The work involves Level III general cleaning, installation of manhole covers, and application of new coating to the entire 3,070 square foot interior surface.
The TGI specifies a detailed procedure for the maintenance, with the contractor work scheduled to start on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027. Special requirements include maintaining cleanliness standards, working around a fire zone boundary, and fabricating a non-flammable closure. The instruction involves multiple craft hours, including labor, painting, structural repair, welding, electrical work, and quality assurance. The work will be conducted at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan, with SRF-JRMC providing supporting services such as crane rigging, utility services, safety inspections, and technical support.
