About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details maintenance and repair work for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19) naval vessel, specifically focusing on two reserve feed water tanks (9-79-1-W and 9-79-2-W). The work involves comprehensive cleaning, inspection, repair, and preservation of the tanks, with specific requirements including commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection of structural integrity, repair of deteriorated welds and plate sections, and installation of new fasteners for a vertical ladder.
The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with the repair taking place at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan. Key technical specifications include Level II general cleaning, surface preparation to SSPC-SP 6 standards, welding and plate replacement (totaling 10 square feet of plate and 4 linear feet of stiffener), and installation of new CRES screws, nuts, and washers. The instruction notes potential lead hazards and requires a non-flammable closure for fire zone boundary work, with quality assurance and technical support to be provided by SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility Japan Regional Maintenance Center).
