About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning and repairing the Lube Oil Settling Tank 1B on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), located in the Engine Room. The specific work involves comprehensive tank maintenance including cleaning, welding repairs, and surface treatments. Key repair requirements include vee-out and welding one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removing and replacing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and removing/installing 4 linear feet of defective stiffener.

The work is scheduled for execution between January 12, 2026, and May 15, 2027, with multiple technical specifications governing the repair process. Special requirements include SURFMEPP standards, working within a fire zone boundary, and requiring a non-flammable closure. The repair will involve multiple shop disciplines including labor, welding, carpentry, and painting, with quality assurance oversight. The task instruction notes a potential lead hazard and mandates specific cleaning, coating, and inspection protocols for the tank, manhole cover plates, and associated components.
