About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Oily Water Bilge Sump (Tank 9-87-1-W) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). The work is located in the Engine Room and involves a comprehensive maintenance process including visual inspection of existing preservation coating, marking corroded or damaged areas, general cleaning at Level III, manhole cover installation, and structural repairs. Specific repair requirements include welding one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removal and replacement of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and 4 linear feet of defective stiffener.
The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with the contractor responsible for detailed documentation, nondestructive testing, and adherence to specified technical standards. Special requirements include SURFMEPP cleanliness standards and fabrication of a non-flammable closure due to work affecting a fire zone boundary. The task involves multiple shop disciplines including labor, welding, carpentry, painting, and quality assurance, with support services from SRF-JRMC including crane rigging, utility services, and technical inspections.
