About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for repair and preservation work on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), specifically focused on repairing structural members and overboard discharge piping in the fresh water ballast system. The work is detailed and comprehensive, involving multiple locations including the fresh water ballast area, self-service storeroom, engine room, and underwater hull weather sections.
Key technical requirements include removing and replacing damaged shell plating, manhole cover plates, bolting rings, vertical ladders, and 1C Ship Service Turbine Generator seawater overboard discharge piping. The project involves specialized tasks such as welding, metal buildup, plate replacement, nondestructive testing, and coating applications. The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with specific instructions for material procurement, quality assurance, and technical execution. The instruction is part of a maintenance and repair package for the USS Blue Ridge, located at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan.
