About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19) detailing a comprehensive maintenance and repair project for distillate fuel and ballast tanks. The TGI covers a detailed scope of work including cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving multiple tanks and associated components, with specific requirements such as commercial blast cleaning, visual inspections, structural repairs, and coating applications. The work involves addressing potential lead hazards, repairing deteriorated welds and plates, and performing nondestructive testing, with a total interior surface area of 6,800 square feet to be treated.
The project is scheduled to commence on 12 January 2026 and complete by 15 May 2027, with work locations including distillate fuel and ballast tanks, waste water bilge sump, engine room, and ship fitter storeroom. Critical technical requirements include Level III general cleaning, installation of manhole covers, welding and repair of bolting ring holes, and applying new coatings. The instruction specifies multiple technical references and includes provisions for fire zone boundary work, requiring a non-flammable closure in accordance with specific naval messaging regulations. The work will be performed at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan.
