About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for naval maintenance work on the USS SHOUP (DDG-86). The document provides detailed specifications for cleaning, assessing, inspecting, repairing, and preserving portable water tank 4-150-2-W, a 3,921-gallon steel tank located in the Forward Power Supply/Conversion Room. The work encompasses approximately 1,100 square feet of interior surface area, including the tank's manhole cover (15" x 23") and Air Vent Hose Connection cover (10" diameter).
The contractor must accomplish general cleaning at Level II; perform structural assessment documenting deterioration, pitting, cracks, and damage; conduct commercial blast cleaning to SSPC-SP 6 standards; execute visual inspection; and complete repairs including base metal weld buildup (36 square inches maximum per defect, one-quarter inch thick for bidding purposes). Additional requirements include installing new gaskets, washers, and brass nuts (MIL-DTL-1222, 5/8-11 UNC-2B specification) on cover plates; applying interior preservation coating per specification 009-032; performing completion air testing at 2 PSIG with zero allowable pressure drop; and conducting chlorination and bacteriological testing through an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory. The document identifies specific references, material requirements (synthetic rubber gaskets and brass fasteners), and government-furnished materials. Supporting SRF-JRMC services include crane rigging, utility provision, safety and gas-free inspections, and quality assurance reviews. The work is scheduled per TGI Period of Performance list, with the planner identified as Code 231A T. Tsutsui and Work Integration Manager as Code 333 T. Yaginuma.
