About this file
This document is an Engineering Systems Requirements (ESR) specification for plumbing systems in a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at 29 Palms, California. The plumbing system requirements cover domestic water supply, sanitary waste, emergency fixtures, and specialized systems specific to the battery installation. Key technical specifications include:
Plumbing system components must use copper tubing for above and below ground piping, with mineral fiber and cellular glass insulation with vapor barriers for hot and cold water lines. An emergency portable eyewash station meeting ANSI Z358.1 requirements is mandated, along with floor drains in the battery area. The system also requires a battery electrolyte waste collection system, and provisions for condensate drainage from AC units. All installations must comply with International Plumbing Code (IPC) and UFC 3-420-01 standards, with concrete equipment pads and proper working space around all equipment.
